Hello,

Can you please tell me if this is normal

Me and my brother applied for a B1 tourist Visa a month ago

The consular seemed satisfied enough and told us everything looks OK here but ur applications need further processing in DC and it could take from 2 days to several weeks :(

Anyway, she gave us a white paper that says

The consular section is unable to conclude the processing of your non-immigrant visa application at this time as we require additional information.

and she checked a square says your application require additional administrative processing. Our office will contact you when we have made a determination.

That's it. no case number. no signature. nothing!!

She gave us our passports back and told us that when they call us we should come back personally to the embassy to deliver the passports and an addition $19.

She said the $19 have to do something with my nationality (Sudanese)

My questions are

Is it weird to get AP for tourist visa (B1)? because I noticed that all the ap cases here is for immigrant VISAs.

Shouldn't we have a case number like the rest of the AP applicants?

Is this going to take as long as the other APs or B1 have a shorter time?

What is the $19 for and which countries citizens require to pay it?

and any other advices.

Thank a lot.

Some of the 9/11 persons entered the US on tourist visas.....

It would help if we knew what country you were from, if it one of the "T" countries then yes, AP is very normal. It is also dependent on your name, your background, and a lot of other factors. Just because it is a tourist visa it does not exempt you from the possibility of AP.

The $19 I am guessing is the delivery fee for the return of the passport after the visa is inserted.

AP does not apply to you.

A B1 or B2 or B1/B2 is applied for at your country of residence, which is outside the US. It will be approved or not.

AP is for immigrants who are in the US and have applied for status of a resident. While their application is processed, they may have to leave the US. For that AP has been created.

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

With AP I meant administrative processing

what else could it mean?

sorry for the confusion. Thanks all for your responses.

I emailed the embassy and asked for my case number and status but they ignore the request for case number

their replay was

we would like to inform you that your case still pending we will contact you as soon as we receive a response

Advanced Parole

Additional Processing

I would have thought it would be very normal for a case such as yours.
