Hello Everyone!

I am writing this in hopes to get a starting point or some contacts for my husband.

He is currently working in the UK on an oil rig offshore. He has done this for the past 3 yrs and would like to continue the same line of work. I have searched the internet but have not been able to find much information on that line of work here in the US.

Can anyone give me any suggestions or a starting place?

We have filed our CR1 paperwork and hope to get our NOA2 very soon.

Thanks in advance for taking the time to read my post and offer advice if you have any.

I used to work for a BP contractor(s). There's plenty of off shore oil rig work up here atm. I'm not sure what state you will be in, but they (oil company's) pay for the air fair to and from...most do anyways. You can PM me on here or email me @ kiptonbrooke@gmail.com and I will be more than happy to send you a few links in regards to oil work here.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

Most of the oil companies, especially deepwater, is based in Houston and around Louisiana. So you should be willing to relocate here if your husband wants to stay in the offshore oil industry. If your husband works for a large multi-national company, it would be best if he talks to his personnel manager or HR manager and ask them to assign him here, so that he can continue working with his home base as Houston. This is what my father did when he immigrated to the US.

The other less reliable option is for your husband to quit his job there and apply for jobs once he gets here. I think this is a less reliable because I am not sure how many contacts your husband has in the US, and getting a job in this field is really based on who you know.

In any case, rigzone is a great website to look for O&G jobs.

Best of luck!

And how old is your husband? Does he have a college degree?

If he graduated less than 5 years ago, then oilgrads in another great site to look for jobs.

My husband is 41 yrs old and is not a college graduate.....wish he was :bonk:

If he has offshore experience, there is no reason why he couldn't work on land rigs. The money may not be as good but there is a lot of activity going on now in North Dakota and the Rockies since many operators have decided to stay out of the gulf waters due to new or unknown regs due to the recent accident there. Try applying directly with Nabors drilling USA. I believe they are looking for skilled people but not sure in what capacity. What kind of work does he actually do on the rig?

The drama begins - again!

And now the drama ends - they took the Green card . . .

Nabors is a great outfit to work for I hear. And they are always in need of skilled drillers and toolpushers. They have purchased some new Academy drilling rigs recently and they are in the process of upgrading a lot of their pipehandling equipment.
