CPIC

Ok so I went this morning to the police station to get my criminal record search. They use CPIC so all should be fine. I have to go back tomorrow for pick-up and it cost $25.

She asked me when I was filling out the paper if they (US Consulate) needed a search on the Sexual Offender Database as well. I initially said no. Thinking that if I have nothing on CPIC then I wouldn't be on the Sexual Offender Database either. Driving home I am wondering if I should have had her do that too and paid the extra.

Anyone else get asked about this?

Karen

CPIC is all you need... if you are convicted of a sexual offense.. it will appear on CPIC..

I don't see why a separate query in the sexual database would be necessary. You are correct if there was any charges or convictions for this type of offence it would show up on your CPIC record. There are various levels of queries and I believe one of the lower levels is for a query for sexual offenders only and doesn't include a general criminality check. These are usually used for employment purposes or volunteer (teachers, day cares etc) type work where they only need to check if you have had a sexual offence and don't need to know if you have had any other summary type offences (ie, public disturbance or other minor offence)

If you got a CPIC check then you will probably have your bases covered. Sorry, can't remember right off hand level that you need and I don't have my copy handy to check for you. I'll have to check at home on my copy.

Ah Zyggy, you are too quick for me!

I think that she probably questioned me because most often they do a clearance for employment or volunteer purposes. I'm sure there aren't many walkin in for US Consulate stuff. I figure the CPIC is enough. If it's clear then I am all good!!

The police station called this morning to let me know it was ready for pickup. I went down and got it. The woman commented on how fast it came back. She said with the number of people applying for a check recently, some are taking a week. I'm not sure if that is just for my city or what.

Food for thought for those that are in the process.

The certificate is really a letter of sorts. Not what I expected. For some reason I thought it would be yellow and a document sort of thing. Must have dreamt it!

Thank you very much for the kind words. Many ups and downs for us in this process. Things are slightly paused right now but I expect right around the corner things will pick up and we will soon be on the move!!
