Hello everyone! Haven't been here in a while. Well I'm still waiting on my interview date and started requesting assistance from local congressman and wanted to provide my insight on that.

My VAWA was approved in January, in May my attorney contacted USCIS for update said they would manually move the file to MSC and give interview date shortly after. In June they said that the I130 was still attached to the I485 but would get that resolved shortly.

Come July we asked for update... No response then August... no response. I finally decided to ask local congresswoman for assistance (you can Google to find your local house representative).

I asked for assistance on the 6th of August on the 27th I got a response from USCIS stating my 130 was moved for faster processing.

Turns out the congresswoman has a person in their office dedicated to helping people with immigration (thank you lord) and after I explained my case a little said they would look more into my case.

A few notes for people wanting to speak to a congressman.

Don't ask until it's been abnormally out of time frame for a response or approval. Current VAWA approval are 10 months to 18months (from what I heard but might be wrong)

If you are within the time frame the congressman office will let you know they can't help and have to wait.

If you are out of the time frame look for your local house of Representatives district and talked to them. Senators are busier so might not able to help as much.

First thing they will tell is that it's unethical to provide special treatment or to speed up the process. All they can do is inquire into the case and if any issues ask for someone to look into the case.

But it does help if for example your case is stuck in a black whole or in my case never ending hot potatoe. Hopefully it will get fixed soon and someone will actually fix my case but starting to get tired so not holding my breath anymore.

God bless you all :-)

Also find out if any of your local representatives are in favor immigration or VAWA. You might be able to get more assistance or they might have a local representative deals only with immigration like local congresswoman.

I was approved in January 11th I Contacted the congresswoman regarding my interview. But I only did so after several attempts to communicate with USCIS had gone unresponded.

Here's a power point from USCIS regarding liaisons pretty informative. Will give information on what they can assist with and how long to get responses

lorphelpme you should contact your congress person.

SandraNJ...My filing date is in July 2011 and I have been waiting over 14 months. No RFE. I contacted USCIS recently to renew my PFD and asked about case status. They promptly responded they are currently processing applications on or before May 7th 2011 and reissued my PFD. Would contacting congressman would be advisable in my case and would it be helpful?

What about 'writ of mandamus'? Should I write to VSC that I am thinking of filing for 'writ of mandamus' or should I wait and for how long? After writing the intent to file 'writ of mandamus' to VSC, how long should I wait to actually file one in case I don't receive a response from them or again receive a response that they haven't reached application of July 2011 yet?

resignedtoinswhim Vawa Unit is adjudicating the cases filed in May,2011 then you can wait a little bit and if in 60 days they don't adjudicate your case then you can ask your congress person to help you out or if you prefer you can ask your congress person to help you now,it won't hurt your case tho. You can write telling that you are considering to file a writ of mandamus, but I don't advice to file the writ of mandamus less than 16 months waiting the approval.

loveme the congress person may help with the Vawa Unit, inquiring about the I-360 cases and about I-485 interview as well, but the delay needs to be at least 12 months, but usually most of them are willing to help after 1 4months of waiting.
