hey Mercifulsoul!!!

welcome to VJ...and we are happy to have you in the big family...

so lets me answer your question.

In my case.

I have a choice to file my divorce based on abuse or irreconciliable differences

but in the last minute

I made up my mind. Im not a bad person and I dont want to hurt/send anyone in prison

dont get me wrong I dont judge people, its not my job... but my ex- hurt me over and over, physically, emotionally, mentally, and financially and I'm afraid to fight back for many reasons.(time, money,etc...) I got all documents to prove it in court... but unfortunately I didn't I filed my divorce based on irreconciliable differences.

I dont know about you guys but thats what I did. but still :crying:

Stillalive I salute you ,thats the way to go .2 wrongs dont make a right.I understand exactly what you mean by not paying evil for evil thats exactly what I did too.And in return God has blessed me abundantly .And this summer I am going home to see my family and I thank God becuase I never thought I would after what I went through and how someone used to intimidate me and make threats of having me deported and getting my child away from me.For those who had their i-485 transferred I think mine was tranferred twice first it was to NBC(and a notice was send to me by mail) then second to USCIS(with no name of which uscis office)but no mail was sent except update online, about 3-4 weeks I received an interview notice which was scheduled exactly a month after I recieved my interview notice.Below is my time line hope it helps.

Ladyg I'm hoping to get my pp stamp even though I'm not planning to travel until summer but my drivers license has condition I can't wait to take it off

Dee07 You should ask the IO at the interview to stamp your passport .Though sometimes the IO can be funny like the one who interviewed me ,I kept asking him to have my passport stamped so I can immediately apply for driver's license can you imagine I lived in this country for 4 yrs no state id used my passport all the time.I also needed that so I can go get a SSN card which says I can work the first only said can only work with authorization from DHS.But the IO refused to stamp my passport so I just let it be.Thank God I recieved my GC within 2 weeks like he said.

stillalive and hopeful thanks for your answers. Did you file by yourselves or with a lawyer. Can i file by myself? How complicate is the paper work and the whole ordeal?

Mercifulsoul you can do it by yourself ,I did everything myself.its not that complicated. If you can afford it you can get a lawyer.Wishing you all the best in this journey.

hey Mercifulsoul!!! I totally agree with LadyG:-)

yeah you can do it by yourself.

in my case

I live in Texas and I did everything by myself, Its not difficult at all.

but I got a problem with mine because my ex refused to sign the waiver.

and that took me a additional 3 months to finalise. lets say the all thing

took me 6 months and I spent only $255 filing fee VS deal with a lawyer, money, court date etc...

check with your state laws/rules or do some homework and you will be fine... or

if you can afford it you can get a lawyer, and he/she can do that for you.

Good luck.
