My Fiance's interview was this morning and she was APPROVED!!!

She has to collect her passport with the visa next Wednesday (I wonder why it will take them 1 week to print a visa, but I'm not complaining)

Thank you all for your help and support. Good luck to those that are still waiting and congratulations to everyone that has already passed (AoS awaits...lol).

No explanations as to why. No additional information requested. All evidence and original certificates returned. Passport kept and medical report kept by CO. No timeline of how long we could expect to be in AP.

We're assuming this is because Dipu is Muslim and his background check is not complete.

Mandatory AP should be expected for Dipu, unfortunately :( The good news is they took his passport. This too shall pass. I suggest you head over to the 221g forums and gain a little bit of confidence there. You'll be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. You know you have a genuine relationship and they know it too. It won't be long. Keep your head up!!!

I am hoping for the best as we did not receive a 221g form. They want no additional information from us. The AP letter we received is different from the 221g form that states you are going under additional review and have to turn in blah blah blah.

Ours is a simple statement and says it's mandatory whereas a 221g isn't mandatory but specific to them being unable to make a decision without additional information.

I just wish they would call it what it is - profiling. It isn't "mandatory" if other couples get approved right away. It's discretionary profiling, which I get, especially with 9/11 coming up. I just wish they would be honest bout it.

*Sigh*

At least with a 221g I would know what they wanted and they would approve us a few weeks after giving it to them.

This is very depressing.

Clothes, a few household things... The one issue is that my mom gave me a hope chest (that my grandpa made for her when she was getting married, it used to be their old tv/radio combo! haha) which is relatively heavy already. We ended up deciding that Blake will fly up here and we'll use my parents' minivan to ROAD TRIP my stuff down to Atlanta. Then when my parents come down to see us get married at the courthouse they'll drive it back up. VERY exciting! It makes the most sense and is the most economical, shipping things is CRAZY expensive imo.

Coming from Canada is a whole different story than flying across the pond both east and west :)

I managed to talk my fiancee (from China) into trying two large suitcases first, then get a third (at the most) if 2 is not enough :D

It costs US$70 for the second luggage on United. Even if cost is not a concern, I want to reduce our luggage handling at the POE. Dealing with customs and immigration is stressful enough, not to mention trying to catch a connecting flight all under 3 hours :)

Well, I can imagine getting through US customs at the Canadian border with a van full of stuff may not be fun either. Then again, we're only dealing with it once. It's going to be worth it!! :)

I was in China for my fiancee's interview and met a few American's whose fiancees had to wait longer for visas. It seems the consulate did another background check or verification before issuing the visa. In one case, they had to wait for Washington D.C. to clear a "facial recognition" check which took an extra 2 days. The other case was a mismatch of birth dates on one of the beneficiary's official documents, so the American petitioner was told to accompany his beneficiary to the American Citizen Services to turn in all forms of ID for verification in person.

So it's just not the printing that takes time :)

We're assuming this is because Dipu is Muslim and his background check is not complete.

I feel your pain. In China, any association with the communist party even for employment reason is an automatic AP.

I know of a few who did not know of any good reason, not told what they were after. I assume the consulate wanted more time for background checks. I also learned about waiting for "facial recognition" verification from Washington D.C.

Please don't be depressed. It may be just a simple as a few name checks like any other additional processing. I realize that 221g may not be specific to your case, but many people who were told the same thing you were are hanging there looking for advice just like you. The reason I know is because when I called DOS to check on our visa, it was under "additional processing" as well. Once I called DOS they told me it was customary and that all visas go under this review. They couldn't tell me anything either. Most important thing is try not to be discouraged. It won't be long. Get yourself ready for a couple of weeks.

I'm sorry Becs but this could be a very short background check and probably not long till you get the Go Ahead. I think it's good they kept the Passport so they have it ready when they approve him.

We'll keep positive spirits here with you Sweets!

I went for my medical on Aug 2nd and had one small glitch. I was a bit disappointed because I had my records from the health unit and I asked them to look it over to make sure I was not due for any vaccines. But....I was born before 1967, they did not have a combined MNR vaccine then. I received the measle & rubella vaccine but not the mumps. Even though I had the mumps as a child the doctor could not accept my word for it (only for chicken pox). He gave me a sheet to have signed and to fax back after getting the vaccine. I went yesterday to the health unit, she was almost not going to give me the vaccine without doing blood work to check for immunity. I explained my situation and in the end she gave me the vaccine and faxed over the form...thank goodness! I should receive my medical package by Tuesday next week.

M&J My interview is on the 31st too! 8:31am, what a silly time.

I'm not getting my medical mailed to me because of the cost (50 bucks? Its a two hour drive if I wanted to pick it up, so we're just going to get it the day before my interview). Is this too risky? If I called the clinic would they be able to tell me over the phone if anything is wrong? I know I don't have any illnesses that they test for, and everything seemed to go fine when I was there..

Blake has found us a house that we like to rent, so we are waiting to hear back to see if we get it. It's exciting but it's also making me nervous about money, even though my parents told me they would help me until I can get on my feet down there (I am still in school afterall, they did the same for my stepsister) I'm a worrier, I just can't help it! This is so the wrong situation for a worrier to be in :P

Time seems to be flying by all of a sudden.
