Congrats Susita!! How are you feeling?

Thanks Caro!

I'm feeling like doodoo!! :( But hopefully that will pass soon. Hubby has been real patient with me and has been helping me out with the cooking, which has made me a little bit sicker.

haha poor hubby, at least he's trying  Feel better soon!!

Congrats Reeses!! and welcome to the mommy club, you're in for a crazy ride :)

I started separating some of Sebas' baby clothes to consign (I saved all of them in case our second was a boy)...there are some outfits that are definitely for boy but I'm not ready to part with. Is anyone saving some of your baby's favorite outfits, and if so, how many?

Saludos,

Caro

Hello Ladies!

Baby and I are moving right along. 17 weeks, no nausea (barely had any this time around, yay!), feeling hungry, a little tired but doing good :) My belly really popped out this week, but no kicks yet. With Sebas I felt them at 18 weeks, so hopefully any day now! Waiting for our gender determination U/S on Friday, hoping the baby cooperates and Saturday we can reveal whether we're having a little girl or another trouble making boy :luv:

In case we don't "talk" before the holidays - Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanza... and prosperous 2012!!

@EOG: yay for groovy baby taking her first plane trip! Here's how I do it with Sebas:

Have some toys for the first part of the trip (boarding until meal time)

Eat

Play a little more

When they turn off the lights after meal time, I prepare a bottle/ warm milk in a sippy cup, lay him across our two sits with a blanket while he drinks his bottle, then pat him so he can fall asleep. Hopefully you don't get any turbulence and she can sleep all the way to London :) take teething pain medication just in case, even if she has no signs of teething - I've been hit with a teething baby on the plane twice, and it's not a good thing!. Take some tylenol as well, just in case, and any comfort toys/ items she may have.

Make sure you have extra diapers, wipes, a change of clothes in case she throws up.

Disposable changing pad covers for the plane changing table, or disinfecting wipes

Something for you to read, extra headphones in case they are short on your flight and don't get any. I used to sleep the entire flight to Buenos Aires but now I don't sleep as much because I'm watching Sebas, so you might need some entertainment for yourself.

Did you get a seat for her, or is she traveling on your lap? Good luck and have a great trip!

Saludos,

Caro

Thanks, Caro! Sorry it took me so long to acknowledge your useful reply. We returned home two days ago, and I'm in a jet lag haze. Madeleine seems to be adjusting just fine, though! (knock on wood) She never really adjusted to UK time, which made for an exhausting trip. Things seem better now that we're back home. She had fun, which is the important thing. Lots of new people to meet (she's very friendly) and places to go.

The flights could have been worse. The flight over was fairly smooth because takeoff coincided with Madeleine's bedtime. She slept about half the time and was reasonably relaxed. The flight home was another story...and 1 1/2 hours longer. I was ready to kiss the ground when we landed! There was a very noisy kid a few months older than Madeleine who was in the row of seats next to us. Sometimes I was happy there was another kid making more noise than Madeleine, but other times I was irrationally pissed off because his whining woke her up a few times. Jon and I have decided that Madeleine will be at least 3 when she sees the UK next. ;-)

Congrats on the news about your little girl!

Hi Ladies!

I'm 15 weeks with our first baby. :) Nearing the 1/2 mark, dying for this crazy morning (all day!) sickness to go away.

I have a few questions:

(1) What are some must have baby items? I'm hoping to keep baby purchases to a minimum until the baby is here and we can better judge what we need vs. whats cute. So far my essential list includes: car seat, bed, diapers and wipes.

(2) For breastfeeding moms - is there a significant difference between buying a home/portable breast pump and renting a hospital grade pump. I may have to travel for work, and I want to make sure I have a nice stock pile of milk (hubby will be a stay at home dad). I guess the question is really, do hospital grade pumps increase your milk production and if so, is it enough to justify renting when I could buy a pump for under $300?

(3) For ladies that use cloth diapers - do you recommended laundering your own or is a diaper service better? I found some diapers I like from green mountain diapers (They are about $10 each, covers purchased separately). There is also a diaper service that delivers in my area, it costs about $85/month (no need to rinse or soak soiled diapers).

Thanks in advance for the replies!

Hi moms!

We're 31 weeks today and starting to feel heavy, but overall doing good. We passed the glucose test, baby's measuring right on track and moving a lot...keeping me up at night

@Reeses

1) I would add onesies on NB (only a few, babies outgrow these very quickly), 0-3M and 3-6M. Lanolin cream for you. Diaper rash cream, and a baby carrier.

2) Hospital grade pumps are big, I'm not sure it would be practical traveling with one. I would invest in a good double electrical breast pump, like a Medela, Ameda or Lansinoh.

3) Can't help you here, we used disposables.

Saludos,

Caro

I washed my cloth diapers because I'm not swimming on money. but if I was, I'd definitely use a diaper service. or have a maid. or both.

*Baby Update*

We welcomed little Julia Rachel on May 27th, 5:14 pm. She weighed 8.08 lbs and measured 20.5 inches.

She is a really good baby, eating well and sleeping as well as you can ask from a newborn :) . Justin and I are over the moon with her

Birth story:

Background: Sebas, our oldest, was a natural birth - birthing center birth turned to transfer and csection after 36 hours of labor, 6 hours of pushing. (Yeah, it was terrible!)

This time we decided to try for a vbac (vaginal birth after csection) if everything was looking favorable.

May 26th 11 pm I was having cramps that were coming regularly, but were not painful. Everything progressed very quickly and at 1 am I told Justin I think we're in labor!. Contractions were 5 min apart. At 3 am contractions were still 5 mins apart but were painful to the point that I was having trouble concentrating through them, so we called our OB and she said to head to the hospital. We packed the car with everything including Sebas who was happy as could be to have a little midnight adventure :hehe:

When we got to the hospital we were already 5 cms. Got the IV and later the epidural, which was heaven  My mother in law drove from Houston (3 hours away) to pick up Sebas from the hospital and watch him, so after she arrived and Sebas was taken care of, Justin and I slept until it was time to push. 1 hour and 12 pushes later, Julia was out  We got to have skin to skin contact, then later they took her in for weight and medications, brought her back, she nursed like a champ and went to sleep. Recovery has been so much easier this time around, and we are thankful for a great birth experience and another healthy baby :luv:

Our family is now complete!

Awww! She's beautiful. Congrats, Caro! I haven't checked this thread in a while and found myself thinking about you and wondering if your little girl had arrived, and lo and behold, yours was the last post!

I hope that things are continuing to go well. How does Sebas like his little sister?

All is well with us. Madeleine is 20 months and quite the character. I think she could be classified as a handful, but tons of personality, energy, and curiosity. Here's a recent pic (I'm surprised she sat still long enough for me to take it):

I hope everyone is well!
