VISA ALERT!!!!

My wife went to her interview at Bogota and they said we did not have enough evidence to prove we are married! We have our son born there and he has a USA Passport. She has been on my IRS Tax return for 3 years with an ITIN Number. She even had a photo of me and my son on his birthday in March 2011. Of course, she uses my ATM card to take out money for their expenses there :bonk:

They want the DAS report for me, besides the one for her entry to and from Colombia. I've been there about 20 times and 19 were to see her! We will show more months of phone records and my wife wants to show me there when I helped supervise the construction and provided the funds for the new addition to her home!

I will Just love to lisent to this experience in More detail because something must be missing .For what i can get you had more proof than must vj's and got denie for the migration DAS report for you and her ?

I heard you can get the DAS form in the US. Where can I go to get there? My fiancee says she got notice that we must have it... :(

Or what's the process to get the DAS form in Colombia? You have to get something notorized in the US and send it to her?

Folks, please keep the updates coming on the DAS letter for petitioner being asked for or not at the interviews.

By the way, Mononeke stated... "So in summary, the DAS certificate for the petitioner is not a required document, it's optional."

The way I read the response from the IVBogota@state.gov is absolutely NOT what Mononeke wrote.

In fact, it states "The DAS letter of entry and exits from the country is for the applicant of the visa, and If the consul, the day of the interview, wants to see the entry and exits of the petitioner, he will ask for it. If you would like to present it the day of the appointment, you can bring it. I absolutely do not translate that as "It's not a required document for the petitioner. It is optional."... as Mononeke has stated. In fact, because it is now on the required list of things to bring to the interview, I think the responding parties intent was more along the lines of... The consul can ask for it, and if you have it you can submit it. Which leads me to believe that if you did not bring it and it was asked for, then the visa isn't going to be approved that day.

Regardless, I recommend everyone getting it. Whether you do or don't, please post back here whether it was asked for, etc.

Since there has been so much confusion about the DAS certificate, someone in the Spanish Colombian K1 thread emailed the US Embassy in Bogotá and this is what they replied:

Señora XXXXXXXXXXXXXX,

Buenas dias, la carta del DAS de entradas y salidas del país es para el aplicante de visa y si el cónsul el dia de la entrevista quiere ver las entradas y salidas de su prometido se la puede solicitar, si usted la quiere presentar el dia de su cita la puede traer.

Sinceramente,

IV Unit

CB

So in summary, the DAS certificate for the petitioner is not a required document, it's optional. This has always been the case and in all honesty, out of all the people here on VJ who have already gotten their visas, I've only read about the CO requesting this document 2 or 3 times, tops.

Mononeke, where does it state this? I hope you are correct, but I would like to confirm you are correct. I spoke to my fiance today and she says that she knows that she has gotten a lot of these vaccines on their long list of vaccines, but hasn't a clue on how she would go about proving it. The list I am looking at from Page 7 of the Packet four shows 10-15 needed vaccines. Where are you getting this information that only 3 are "really" needed for the visa. If that is correct, why would they have this long list? I hope you are correct because unless someone knows perhaps of some governing body that maybe keeps track of all Colombian's vaccines it looks as though my fiance will need to start from scratch. Is there any sort of Medical Authority(Government body) in Colombia that perhaps keeps track of vaccines? My fiance pretty much laughed at me when I asked her that question.

Thanks for any help you can provide on what is really needed as far as vaccines go and where it is documented etc. i.e. I don't want to show up to the medical showing we have recently gotten 3 vaccines (2 months prior to the medical) and then have them say she needs all 13.

Thanks

Remember, the only vaccines needed to get a visa at the US embassy are: MMR, TD and varicela if the beneficiary has never had it before. That's it. So don't get anything else.

Felo,

I don't think one can concur that this visa was not approved simply because of a missing DAS letter on the petitioner. As you mentioned, something is missing here. My sense is the beneficiary did not show up with many of the "required" docs and that the DAS letter was probably just one item out of a laundry list of items missing.

Afterall, did they want evidence to prove they are married or evidence of on-going relationship.

Having a son together... does not prove marriage.

The son having a US passport... does not prove marriage.

Claiming someone as a dependent on their US tax return with an ITIN number. Hmmm, claiming her as a spouse? I'm not sure about the IRS tax code on that. Claiming a spouse that does not live in the US on one's tax return. Regardless, I do not think this is one of the items they specifically ask for when proving a relationship.

There are items they specifically look for and ask for to prove "on-going relationship" or in his case "prove marriage."

If they want proof of marriage, how about a marriage certificate, etc? Don't couple married in Colombia have a laundry list of requirements to go through before marrying?

If they want proof of ongoing relationship, they specifically ask for copies of petetitioners entry and exit stamps from passport, copies of hotel bills together, copies of boarding passes of the petitioner to and from Colombia, emails, phone logs, etc. The poster did not state that the beneficiary provided any of this. What he did state was that she provided "one" photo, that they plan on submitting more phone records, and the wife wants to show something about him supervising construction and providing the funds. Again, he's missing the mark. They ask for specific things, he hasn't stated here that he provided what they asked for and now he is coming up with the things he wants to provide as opposed to sticking with the things they ask for. I hope it works for him, but if he doesn't follow the instructions I assume they might get the same results. There is simply too much we don't know, but I would not conclude he was denied simply for not providing the DAS certificate. Though it is now on the list of required items.

I just woke up so I don't remember the exact location, but the CDC website has a chart with recommended vaccines for immigrants based on age and sex. And she's right -- the only ones that end up on that list are the MMR, TD, and varicella.

Can anyone please list the steps needed for the DAS form. Today I sent my fiancee a letter in Spanish that she wrote up, giving her permission to get the form, got it notorized at the bank, and sent her scans from my passport. However, she thinks I might need to provide her another document. I have tried researching it online, but I appear to be driving in circles and coming out with little information.

Can anyone please assist? Thanks!

I had to get an apostille (international notarization) on the document I sent to my fiance for the DAS letter.

I am confused about paying the fee at Banco Helm. Can someone tell me what is the procedure? I am arriving in Bogota 2 days before my interview. Is this sufficient time to go to Banco Helm and get it done the same day? Also, I have read that I need the DS-156 form. I have seen someone say that I need a blank form and then another person say that I need to have the formed filled out. Which is it? I tried going to the Embassy website to download this form just in case that I needed the blank form but the link isn't working. Can someone direct me to a good link for this form? What is the proper procedure? Thanks for the help.
