Is the bank letter really needed for I-134?

Hello fellow members,

I am a little concerned and confused regarding the banking information and documents needed as supporting evidence for the I-134.

1) Regarding the "Statement from the officer of the bank....stating the date account opened, current balance, and total deposited in the past year". Well, my bank gave me a really hard time with this, saying they do not do such letters/statements. All she did was print me a statement titled "Deposit Account Balance Summary" that has the date the account was opened, the total balance, and the average monthly balance over the past year. It is NOT signed (Just a bank statemet). That statement does not list the total deposited in the past year and it is not singed. I do not know if this "Deposit Account Balance Summary" that they gave me will be ok, or if I do have to get an actual letter from the bank that is signed.

2) Question # 7 on I-134 states " I have on deposit in savings banks in the US: " I do not know what are they asking for? Are they asking me to state my checking account balance OR my savings account balance? If so, what supporting documents do they need? Do I have to put a number/answer this question or can I leave it blank (like on the VJ example form)

3) Is there a place on the I-134 to state my checking account balance? or do I just give them the "Deposit Account Balance Summary" that they gave me at the bank?

Note: My income is above the poverty guideline, and have a letter from my employer.

Thank you very much for your help.

If you make above the poverty level then you dont need to put your bank statements or any other questions. Just put your annual income.

If you make above the 125% poverty level, then you do not need to list any assets, or provide bank statements and such to prove the assets you have listed. The assets are used by those that need to add in their assets to make up for a shortcoming in their income because they are below the 125%. Since you do not need to list them, skip those questions, and leave them blank. Just provide your tax transcripts, pay stubs and letter from your employer.

Thank you very much guys!

So is it OK to leave the other areas on question # 7 blank? and just fill in my income/salary? In general, I have heard that no areas on an application/form should be left blank...it should be filled with either a 0 or N/A or None. However, does this apply to question 7 too?

Thank you again.

You can just list your annual income, and then leave all the rest of them blank that are asking about different types of assets. No need for a 0, N/A, or None. Since you are not wanting to use assets, just don't fill those in at all.
