My wife and me got married a few months ago. She is a US Citizen and I came as a Student. We will have our AOS interview this Wednesday. Can anyone please tell me how the interview is like, give me some examples of questions they might ask and what else to take to the interview as proof of our marriage. So far we are taking about 20 vacation pictures of the past 2 years we've been together, joint car insurance doc, joint bank account statement, joint phone bill and apt lease. We don't have pictures of our wedding because we got married in a courthouse and did not have a reception.

Thank you very much for your help.

Some of the questions will be general in nature, and they will come straight from the forms. Have you ever been arrested? Are you a member of a totalitarian party? etc. They ask these questions of everyone.

Any other questions will be tailored specifically to your case, so the experience of others isn't going to be much benefit here. The more compelling your evidence is, the less suspicious they will be that this is a "marriage for green card" case, and the fewer questions they'll ask. Conversely, if they are more suspicious then they'll ask more questions. It's also generally true that the longer you've been a couple, the more evidence they will expect you to have, and the more detailed they will expect your answers to be.

The best you could do is to try to look at your case objectively, as if you were a third party who didn't know you. Would your documentary evidence be enough to convince you that this marriage was probably legitimate, or would it raise questions? If you were both asked detailed and very personal questions about each other would you answer them accurately, and would your answers be consistent with each other?

my experience: my husband and I had separate interview and it took 10 minutes each.

only two questions: how I meet my husband? and how did we keep long distant relationship?.

the immigration officer kept our lease contract and joint account statements so if you have those documents is a plus, and finally pictures.

good luck!!!!!

I agree with JIM. We had all our documents and evidences in order. We were asked the general questions and surprise surprise they asked us about my daughter which my husband petitioned but have not seen nor have spoken to. We did not expect it as we were thinking the questions would pertain to our relationship. Just be prepared, if your relationship is legit there is nothing to worry. In the end, the IO stamped my passport.

Good luck!

Thank you guys so much. I went to the interview and it was much easier than I thought. We were in the interview room for about 30 min and most of that time, the office was on the phone with someone. He just asked us a few general questions and kept some of our evidence documents. He said that I should be getting my GC within 10 days.

Oh I forgot, I have some questions.

Do you guys know if I need to go to the social security office and get a new SSN? I got mine from when I was a college student student.

The officer told me that I can apply to remove my conditional permanent resident status in 2 years and apply for citizenship in 3 years. does the 2 and 3 years start counting from the day when we got married or from the day of our AOS interview.

Thanks!

Your Social Security number won't change - ever. If your Social Security card says "Not valid for work without DHS authorization" then get a new Social Security card when you get your green card. If your name has changed then get a new Social Security card when you get your green card. Otherwise, you don't need a new Social Security card.

Your accumulated time as an LPR starts on the day the green card is approved. That date will be printed on the card where it says "Resident Since:".

Congratulations on your GC Approval! I also went through the same thing and I thought it's way better than expected! LOL but it's better to expect for the worse, than expect high then just get disappointed, etc.

You can apply for citizenship in 2014, because you have been an LPR from this year :)
