Cause I'm up so freakin early, I get to start the day. And, because it's so early, my mind is thinking of strange things. Who actually pronounces wednesday wed nes day? Isn't it more like wendsday?

And, right as I posted this I realized it is in fact still tuesday. Oh man, I know I'm up too early now

:) yeah same here rahma..scared me to death! On the same note of pronouncing wed-nes-day...I get strange looks coz I pronounce February as Feb-ru-ary. I flat refuse to say Feb-U-ary...THERE'S AN "R" THERE...WHERE IN THE AMERICAN LANGUAGE DID THEY SAY "R" IS SILENT!!! We didn't learn to pronounce it with the "r" but as I got older, I just couldn't overlook it anymore

yep, me too, thought it was Wednesday... didn't even phase me til I clicked and read your post, then realized it is indeed Tuesday. Oh well, either way, gotta work and it's going to be a long week! I'm still in bed and don't really want to get up yet - phooey... I have to. I did wake up thinking a lot about Ramadan, then I realized how incredibly thirsty I am  I was going to try to see how long I could go before taking a drink of water- which then got me to thinking about when one has to take a pill during Ramadan.... I guess that's ok as long as you only swallow a little water w/ the pill? Enough to get it down? What's the word on this?

Quite a ramble for still being in bed.

Medicines used by gargling do not break the fast so long as they are not swallowed. If a person has a tooth filled and feels the taste of it in his throat, this does not break his fast. (From the fataawa of Shaykh ?Abd al-?Azeez ibn Baaz, issued verbally).

Having the ears syringed; nose drops and nasal sprays ? so long as one avoids swallowing anything that reaches the throat.

Tablets that are placed under the tongue to treat angina and other conditions - so long as one avoids swallowing anything that reaches the throat.

Medications absorbed through the skin, such as creams and patches used to administer medicine and chemicals.

I also want to add that my husband said that if it is imperative that you take that medication to save your life then it is excused but if it is something you can go without, then you should try to do without ???? is that right?

Good Morning! I too fell for the Wednesday thread! I was like oh there's todays thread. Only to realize that it's only Tuesday! Not fair! Nothing at all going on today except work. Have a good day everyone!

So can we still take medication by mouth when we break fast? My husband and I can change the times of our meds, but it's imperative that he takes his meds, but I am sure I could skip mine if I want to be sneezy and stuffy all month.

What kind of pill is it? Swallowing a pill breaks one's fast. If it's for a headache and you need to take it, there isn't any blame in taking it. You just make up the fast on another day.

If a person is required to take pills at a certain time during the day, they should talk with their doctor to see about shifting around the regimine. If it's absolutely essential to take it at say 1 pm, every day year round, then that person is exempt from fasting and should pay to feed poor people instead. If it's something that is taken only for a certain period of time, the person can make up fasting at a later date.

2: 183-184

O YOU who have attained to faith! Fasting is ordained for you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you might remain conscious of God: [fasting] during a certain number of days. But whoever of you is ill, or on a journey, [shall fast instead for the same] number of other days; and [in such cases] it is incumbent upon those who can afford it to make sacrifice by feeding a needy person.

And whoever does more good than he is bound to do does good unto himself thereby; for to fast is to do good unto yourselves - if you but knew it.

Is it April 1st already?:P:D I thought for a minute it was pay day

I hardly ever post in these daily threads and I'll tell you why.... it's so frustrating and depressing to see in print that I have NO life :(

I get up each morning, go to work, come home, have enough time to get some food together (I won't call it cooking because I don't really have time for that), get the kids to bed, talk to Yousuf for a hot minute, then get myself to bed so I can get up early the next morning and do the same thing all over again.

Then, my two days off each week, fly by like I'm on fast forward for those days!

I want to work from home... or at least in my own city... so I have more time to do things during the day. I have been thinking about asking my boss if I can work 8:30 am to 7 pm Mon-Thur with Fridays off but I'm scared I'll get laughed at :P I want to go to the masjid in the next city on Fridays for prayer and Quran and Arabic classes :crying:

Anyway, I hope everyone has a good day.

Kelly, I hope you're feeling better today.

Rahma, get it together chick :P(F)

Henia, when are you going to check in??? :help:

Amal, since you referenced shaykh bin baaz in your post then I'll refer you to two sites where some of his and his colleague's fatawa regarding fasting are. He was at one time the head of the Permanent Commitee for Islamic Research and Fatawa.

that which does and does not break the fast On this site you can go to the top of the page under catagories and find other fatawa as well.

For people with chronic illnesses, they're exempt from fasting. I know some people with diabetes, and they just pair down to the bare minimum during Ramadan, so they're in the spirit of fasting, even if they're not actually doing it.
