Hi all,

I have just called the american embassy in Cairo to ask about the status of my case and the woman told me that it is under administrative processing I asked her does that mean that it is consular review she said no it is administrative processing in Washington and I asked her again when I can check again she added u can check on the website of the embassy I replied it does not work she said that I can call after 2 or 3 days and the visa will be issued.

I do not understand that. why there is administrative processing in Washington ??

does anyone have idea about that?

does that mean that I am approved??

thanks a lot

AP in Washington means Name checks. Is your name Mohamed, Ali, Abdul and even some Ahmeds?

She lied when she said it will be issued in 3 days.

AP name checks take about 1-6 months. Be patient. I would still call the embassy everyday till I got the visa to make sure they knew I want my visa!

Good Luck

I do not think the middle name of Mohamed is a problem.

If they denied you then you would have known at the interview. So, your visa is approved PENDING background and name checks. So, as long as your name comes back clean then you will be approved. But if they find a hit on your full name then it takes a long AP time. and they can still deny you if they cannot clear your name.

I think you will be approved soon. Do not worry. It will come within 3 months but hopefully just 1 month after the interview.

Good Luck my friend

Hi all,

at the time of the interview I signed form DS-230 and the consular officer asked me if I swear and affirm that all the information is true I said I do and then she asked me to send proof of relationship ( photoes,letters,e-mails) and I sent them by DHL and she did not say anything else and when I asked her how will I know that the visa is issued she said we will let u know.

by the way they kept my passport and when I called the embassy today as I told u a woman told me that my case is under AP in Washington.

I hope that it will be done soon and get the visa

I wish all the best of luck to all of us

so many thanks

How sure are you about AP in Washington being only name checks?

We have been lucky in getting a reply back from the embassy on our status each week. But we never seem to reach them on the phone. Even my husband tries from Egypt, the @* line just rings, rings n rings. What number were you calling to get a live person.

Administrative processing can be name checks.

http://***removed***/forum/showthread.php?t=4364

Administrative Processing Frequently Asked Questions

• What is Administrative Processing? AP is also called Additional Administrative Processing and is when the applicant is being checked more closely. It can be for security checks which encompass fingerprints and/or name checks or for document verification.

• When does Administrative Processing Happen? AP can happen at any time during your processing. It can happen at a service center, at the NVC level, or at the embassy level. It mainly is discussed here in the forums at the embassy level.

• Who can get Administrative Processing and Why? AP usually affects men and women from certain countries but anyone can get AP. Persons coming from T countries (Terrorist Countries) seem to have more security checks and have to endure AP at the embassy level after their interview. Common names, your nationality, religion, education, relationship of applicant, travels and job can all be factors for AP. Having incomplete or missing documents will also cause a case to be put in AP. In some cases if the embassy does not believe in the validity of the relationship they can investigate it further with a field investigation.

• What are the T-Countries? Although it is classified, the list of countries reportedly affected by these restrictions includes, but is not limited to, Afghanistan,

Algeria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt,

Eritrea, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya,

Malaysia, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia,

Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates,

and Yemen. http://www.abil.com/articles/ABIL%20...0Wolfsdorf.pdf This list is complied from an attorney and the list of T-countries can change at any time.

• Can I check the status of my case? The embassy will not in many cases respond to emails until a certain amount of time has elapsed. The best bet is to contact Department of State aka: DOS and ask them for an update bi-weekly. They will not be able to give you details but they can tell you if the case is still pending in AP or cleared.

• DOS information: DOS can be contacted Monday through Friday during business hours. You must have all information concerning your case with you so that they can assist you.

Department of State’s visa Information phone number: 202-663-1225

• Can I expedite this process? The simple answer is NO. No one can expedite the checks since they are considered a matter of National security. An elected official can only make a congressional inquiry on your behalf. They cannot get the checks finished any faster.

• Does AP have any time frame for completion? NO AP can last anywhere from days, weeks, months and in a few cases years.

Anyone that happens to be given a 221(g) or Administrative Processing letter must be patient and let them do their work. Do not call constantly and ask about your case. Remember each time your case is moved it can then end up at the bottom of the stack and your time can be extended. Each case is different so you cannot judge your case by any other and each consulate/embassy may have a different average time for completion of AP.

Laurel Scott is a Immigration lawyer that VJ recommends. Here is a question session with her

http://www.smf.juarez-mexico.com/index.php?topic=24917.0;wap2

Catiana:

Recently it seems like there have been quite a few people being put in administrative processing, so I thought this would be a good way for you to keep track of each other’s progress.

There is nothing you can do to prevent administrative processing. Administrative processing could be when your case is put under further review for missing documents, or because you have a previous criminal record, DUIs or possibly the investigation of tattoos that could be gang-related.

It seems like most of the time, administrative processing (AP) is nothing but a random check of intending immigrants where they check into their background deeper than they normally would. Usually this is because of a name “hit” or they simply want to do a further review of your file. They say most administrative processing takes 6-8 weeks to complete, but some cases (ie. Suspicion of gang-related tattoos) require additional time (CDJ can take up to six months or more). Administrative processing can happen at anytime during your immigration process, even immediately after a waiver has been approved or after a referred waiver has been approved and you are picking-up your visa.

More info on AP from Laurel Scott’s chat 12/1/10:

http://www.smf.juarez-mexico.com/index.php?topic=25086.msg249060#msg249060

Quote from: Catiana on December 01, 2010, 12:24:28 PM

Iminca: FromMartinezFam, Hi Laurel, my question is why are some peoples cases are put under adminastrating processing or in other words (AP), could it be from something the person did or how difficult the case is?

Laurel: There are many reasons. The most common reasons are (a) the consulate's computer is showing a note that there is some significant history, but the computer doesn't provide that history and the consulate has to order immigration records from the US, (b) the consular officer doesn't know how to apply the law to your case and needs guidance from higher-ups, © something about the case makes the consular officer want to do research other than ordering the immigration records - e.g. travelling to the applicant's home town to interview people in person (yes, they do that sometimes), or (d) there's a name-check hit that may or may not be the same person as the applicant

More info on AP from Laurel Scott’s chat 12/15/10:

http://www.smf.juarez-mexico.com/index.php?topic=25386.msg253246#msg253246

Quote from: Catiana on December 15, 2010, 12:33:40 PM

Iminca: FromPan:1. fromPan: Hi jsuthave some quest. about Administrative processing:

Why they put us in there?

How Long will be?

after the waiver approved, and at the open app, is there any one who their visa was denied?

Laurel: I'm sorry to tell you that "Administrative Processing" is one of those Black Holes in immigration law. What that means is that your case has been taking off the standard rails of processing and is now off on it's own. This means there is no way to predict how long it will take. I have personally had cases in administrative processing for less than two weeks and cases in administrative processing for four years (no, I'm not kidding, and yes I filed all kinds of inquiries and nasty letters). As for why you are in Administrative Processing, there are a great many possible reasons, such as a false hit on your name, the existence of an alien file, questions about the validity of your documents, or legal questions that need a supervisor's opinion.
