Usually bring ipod with lots of music and play iphone games or DS games or PSP games!

Also they have movies for some of the long flights, Usually will watch thos. Try and sleep a lot because the jet-lag will hit you pretty hard when you step off if you don't sleep!

Slap the headphones on, kick back and watch the movies. Try to stay away from the map. Its pretty depressing when you can see how far youve come and how much farther you have to go.

From PA to New Zealand... it was about 25hrs of travelling. 13 from cali - NZ... I slept & watched movies. They turned the lights down after we were served our first meal. But the jet lag will definitely kick ya in the butt without a nap - even if you aren't tired. I took a Benadryl. Make sure you get up and walk around to help prevent DVT and/or swelling.

I always go prepared for flights. I am 5ft10 with long legs and I can't get comfortable for long on most planes. (Jet Blue airlines are easier)

I take knitting, books, a newspaper, a notepad and pencil, laptop, ipod, snacks, watch the movies, talk with the person next to me. Depending on the flight I also take niquil (night nurse) and get a few hours of sleep.

I hope your flight goes swiftly!

I try to sleep as much as possible. When I can't sleep then I'll try to find a movie on the entertainment system that I haven't watched yet, or maybe play a video game. I avoid China airlines now because their old 747's don't have personal entertainment systems at each seat. If you really want to use your laptop then you can bring an external rechargeable battery to extend your battery life, or pony up for a seat in business class.

Also, a bottle of water, some Halls lozenges, and a surgical mask.

I've been on the flight from DC to Japan a few times. Sleep as much as possible. You also have about a 3hr lay over in Japan... When you not sleeping, walk around a bit. I take some sleeping pills with me to make sure I get plenty of sleep. I'm 5' 11" and it aint easy getting comfortable. Enjoy !
