No emails or letters...just phone calls and massenger logs

Hello,

I have a question, if I may.

Our K1 interview is around the corner, and I have been hearing that emails and/or letters are needed as proof of relationship. The thing is we hardly have any emails or letters. We just communicated daily (almost 2 - 3 times daily) over the phone and by yahoo massenger. We never felt the need to write emails or letters. Will this be a problem? I am kind of worried. The thing is it was just easier and more practical to just call each other up. Besides, she does not know english, and could not write emails/letters in english...and my keyboard does not support writing emails in Arabic. So it was just more practical to just call each other, since we spoke the same language. As proof we have:

-Phone records

-Yahoo massenger logs

-Pictures from 2 visits

-Tickets, passport stamps, Hotel receit

Do you really need to have emails/letters?

Your input is appreciated.

It is probably enough since you have phone records, so long as the evidence you have covers a range of months to show that it proves an 'ongoing' relationship, continuing between visits and since you last saw each other. No birthday cards, notes sent, chat messages at all?

Mar 2011 - After 5mths denied for lost docs - Attempts to follow up failed. Mar 18 2012 - I-129F sent - No sign of NOA1 but they have banked the check...Jul 24 - Update - USCIS has located our file
Infopass Apt - they sorted through everything - our 2011 and 2012 file keep getting mixed up - getting us a Case# (still waiting) Dec- Infopass Appt- expecting to get a case # in about a week ..Still no Case number

Mar 2013 Infopass - advised file was in a box somewhere, and it would be quicker for us to refile. Life gets in the way... New petition submitted July 2014 .

It seems as though your evidence should be sufficient. As noted in the previous post, you should ensure the call logs you provide are from a plethora of months and not just a few. It will be the evidence that its not just fly by night but has progressed over time. I also do not have many emails and I definitely don't have any letters. I do, however, have call logs from the two different phone companies I've used since we've been together. I think the phone call logs hold the same weight as the letters and emails. If you have both... great. However, if you don't have one then you should have the other. Your constant communication should be evident from those logs. That's my opinion (and what I am also hoping).

You may want to post this same question in your specific country/region portal. Maybe some others who have had interviews at your location will have more input. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your input, DarlingNikki and Andie. Unfortunately Andie, we do not have birthday cards, notes sent, or chat messages. Just months worth of phone history and yahoo massenger call logs.

I do however have some WU money transfer receits to her (just tried to help her out at times). Not sure if that will help.

Thanks.

I am not sure what input you want but I will give you mine, more for others benefit than yours.

You are going to submit what you have to one of the most difficult consulates in the world. You have what you have because it was "easy" Good plan. This is not an easy process (but you are in the easiest part right now) It requires a lot of effort and expense, particularly on the part of the US citizen.

For others in the process, you are in a process that requires that you establish that a relationship exists for this type of visa and is not established to circumvent immigration laws. It is best to present as much evidence of this as possible. That means it is best to invest some time and money in documented conversation...emails and phone calls with a record of calls made.

Do you "really need them" Maybe.

The interview process involves submitting your evidence that ois revierwed by someone you do not see or talk to. Then an officer (who may or may not have looked at the evidence themselves) makes a decision. Given that most interviews are but a few minutes, maximum, it is safe to assume that the decision is made based entorely on the evidence presented. If that decision is not in your favor, your fiancee will have a bare few minutes to change their mind.

As John "Ponoro" Taylor said "It is best to be caught slightly over-gunned than to be stomped to bits by an elephant"

Present what you have and good luck.

If you don't have emails, you don't have them. For Casablanca, I would include a detailed Evolution of Relationship letter and affidavits from family members who are familiar with and approve of your relationship. Make sure to state and document the time you've spent together in person as well.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
Understanding the big picture is priceless. Anonymous

We used six months of phone and text message records for my husband's interview in Casa. When he called me, it was recorded on my cell phone bill. When I called him, it was recorded on the calling system I used. Our text messages also showed up on my cell phone bill. So, he went with 6 months of communication bills - our contacts were highlighted for easy access/reading. It showed multiple phone calls and text messages per day.

So, if that's your method of communication, provide at least six months and make it easily readable/accessible for them. (I recommend the highlighting).

Also, they will likely ask her why no other forms of communication were used; they did ask my husband this question. So, make sure she is prepared. For us, we both were busy and preferred talking and texting rather than other forms of communication. They accepted that. Just make the proof of relationship easy for them to see and read and be prepared to answer why it was the best form of communication for your relationship. Good Luck

I have a follow up question on this one, if both of us -my wife and I - speak the same language ( arabic ) so when we chat with each other we use Roman alphabets but it's arabic language, I'm sure the Consulate officer will not understand it, plus we chat everyday for hours, so I do have more than 2000 pages 20MB. Also, if I send a House Deed with both of our names on it, would be a good evidence ?

Thanks

I would wanna believe what you present as an evidence of keeping the relationship ongoing is what would be accepted. The Phone log and text Message is quicker for some to communicate. My wife never liked replying to emails bcos she just reads and digest them.whatever we need talk, she calls or text me to come online.we havent used the email for close to three years of our dating now and i am not seeing that as a problem. My phone log with her shows at least 5 minutes on each call and i call her everymorning and nite b4 laying down.

Now I'm worried. We communicate entirely by Facebook messages and YM chat. We have no emails (what's the point since FB is an email type system now too) and no phone calls (what's the point since YM does audio for free). I also have 3 paper letters and a couple of Xoom receipts. And a couple of screen shots showing us video chatting with YM. Will that be enough? The FB and YM chat logs are massive, no way to print them all, just a subset over time (which I did and included in the I-129F... we'll have even more by interview time.)

Don't be worried. What the VO is looking for is evidence of consistent and ongoing communications. They don't really care whether it is email, chat, sms or what. They know that international phone calls are expensive and they are well aware of yahoo voice, skype and video chat. You won't be penalized for no phone calls. In the 3 years from the time we met until our interview, my wife and I have not spoken once on the phone. We do have thousands (possibly tens of thousands) of pages of chats, hundreds of emails and hundreds on pages of sms messages. With all that, I only submitted a sampling of maybe 3 or 4 days a month each month for the time period. Again, they are looking at ongoing relationships, not volume. At the interview we took additional logs since the time we submitted our petition and I would encourage you to do that also.

In our case the most important thing to the VO was the evolution of relationship letter and the pictures. I would imagine he perused the logs and emails prior but didn't ask for any of these

We did not submit any letter nor emails neither. Only skype logs and phone records and we got approved.

Good luck!
