Ideally, You should send three years of tax returns (although one is acceptable), exceeding the minimum income for the "slam dunk". If you did not meet the minimum income requirements until recently, then yes; you need to provide 6 months of pay check stubs for proof.

Do we really need to send 6 months of check stubs when we apply for AOS. What if your last check stub shows your year to date earning?

we hired a lawyer. we only submitted 3 months worth of pay stubs and 1 year tax return, also employment letter and bank statement, 401K if you have. good luck!

That's great but the OP asked what's required and a tax return (most recent tax year) is all that's required. Pay stubs IF the tax return doesn't reflect a high income. The rest is not required.
