Interview question - just the applicant OK?

Hi everyone,

My wife has her IR-1 interview at the Sydney consulate (which is a short flight away) on Tuesday. We were all (she, I and our toddler son) planning to attend, but unfortunately the kid has come down with a sickness and may not be able to fly.

If this is the case, I'll need to stay home and take care of him while she goes to Sydney.

Is it bad if both of us don't go to the interview? Would it be ok if she just shows up with the necessary documentation and explains why we're not there?

Thanks in advance!

In any case, I would notify the Embassy as soon as possible. I'd also get a Doctor's Note stating that the illness will not allow them to fly, and therefore, you the caretaker must remain home.

You both don't need to be there- I was told that when I applied for my I130. Also it states it somewhere in your documentation. Myself and the kids are in NY and my hubby just board his flight yesterday from NY to be in Sydney by Tuesday for the interview. At the time I asked it was because I wasnt sure how long the process was going to take and needed to get back to NY by July to enroll my eldest for kindergarten the following September.

Hi everyone - just wanted to say that the consulate officials were totally cool with just my wife showing up for the interview. Five minutes later (about an hour after walking in the door of the consulate building), she was approved. Thanks to everyone here for all the help!
