So Egypt telling the UN get out of the way was in no way a factor?

You mean after the Soviet Union told Egypt that the Israelis were massing for an attack, the Egyptians decided to occupy their own defensive positions? And when the UNEF offered to redeploy on the Israeli side, the Israelis refused to let them take up positions there?

Even then the number of UN forces were small in comparison with both armies. Now however the situation is different, the UN forces only need to act to contain and counter smaller quantities of militants. Their is no air force, or armor involved.

When did Nazis move in mass to a foreign land, displace the indigeous population, and create their own communities?

The illiteracy and historical ignorance on this site in general and this thread in particular is truly breathtaking.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polish_areas_annexed_by_Nazi_Germany

Polish areas annexed by Nazi Germany

At the beginning of World War II, nearly a quarter[1] of the pre-war Polish areas were annexed by Nazi Germany and placed directly under German civil administration, while the rest of Nazi occupied Poland was named as General Government. The annexation was part of the "fourth" partition of Poland by Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, outlined months before the invasion, in the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

Some smaller territories were incorporated directly into the already existing Gaue East Prussia and Silesia, while the bulk of the land was used to create new Reichsgaue Danzig-West Prussia and Wartheland. Of those, Reichsgau Wartheland was the largest and the only one comprising solely the annexed territory.[2]

The official term used by the Nazi authorities for these areas was the "incorporated Eastern territories" (German: Eingegliederten Ostgebieten).[3] They planned for a complete Germanization of the annexed territories, considering them part of their lebensraum.[4] The local Jewish population was forced to live in ghettos, and was gradually deported to concentration and extermination camps, the most infamous of which, Auschwitz, was located in annexed East Upper Silesia. The local Polish population was to be gradually replaced by German settlers. The Polish elite especially became subject to mass murder,[5] and an estimated 780,000 Poles were subject to expulsion, either to the Generalgouvernement or to the Altreich for forced labour. The remaining Polish population was strictly segregated from the German population and subject to a variety of repressive measures. These included forced labour and their exclusion from all political and many cultural aspects of society. At the same time, the local German minority was granted several privileges, and their number was steadily raised by the settlement of ethnic Germans, including those displaced by the Nazi-Soviet population transfers.

Please do carry on with the lies, half-truths, and shams.

Israeli PM Netanyahu: I "stopped" Oslo peace process

Bibi the Bamboozler to Settlers: ‘America Won’t Get in Our Way…It’s Easily Moved’

Bibi:…The Arabs are currently focusing on a war of terror and they think it will break us. The main thing, first of all, is to hit them. Not just one blow, but blows that are so painful that the price will be too heavy to be borne. The price is not too heavy to be borne, now. A broad attack on the Palestinian Authority. To bring them to the point of being afraid that everything is collapsing…

Woman: Wait a moment, but then the world will say “how come you’re conquering again?”

Netanyahu: the world won’t say a thing. The world will say we’re defending.

Woman: Aren’t you afraid of the world, Bibi?

Netanyahu: Especially today, with America. I know what America is. America is something that can easily be moved. Moved to the right direction.

Child: They say they’re for us, but, it’s like…

Netanyahu: They won’t get in our way. They won’t get in our way.

Child: On the other hand, if we do some something, then they…

Netanyahu: So let’s say they say something. So they said it! They said it! 80% of the Americans support us. It’s absurd. We have that kind of support and we say “what will we do with the…” Look. That administration [Clinton] was extremely pro-Palestinian. I wasn’t afraid to maneuver there. I was not afraid to clash with Clinton. I was not afraid to clash with the United Nations. I was paying the price anyway, I preferred to receive the value. Value for the price.

...

Woman: The Oslo Accords are a disaster.

Netanyahu: Yes. You know that and I knew that…The people [nation] has to know…

What were the Oslo Accords? The Oslo Accords, which the Knesset signed, I was asked, before the elections: “Will you act according to them?” and I answered: “yes, subject to mutuality and limiting the retreats.” “But how do you intend to limit the retreats?” “I’ll give such interpretation to the Accords that will make it possible for me to stop this galloping to the ’67 [armistice] lines. How did we do it?

Narrator: The Oslo Accords stated at the time that Israel would gradually hand over territories to the Palestinians in three different pulses, unless the territories in question had settlements or military sites. This is where Netanyahu found a loophole.

Netanyahu: No one said what defined military sites. Defined military sites, I said, were security zones. As far as I’m concerned, the Jordan Valley is a defined military site.

Woman: Right [laughs]…The Beit She’an Valley.

Netanyahu: How can you tell. How can you tell? But then the question came up of just who would define what Defined Military Sites were. I received a letter – to my and to Arafat, at the same time – which said that Israel, and only Israel, would be the one to define what those are, the location of those military sites and their size. Now, they did not want to give me that letter, so I did not give the Hebron Agreement. I stopped the government meeting, I said: “I’m not signing.” Only when the letter came, in the course of the meeting, to my and to Arafat, only then did I sign the Hebron Agreement. Or rather, ratify it, it had already been signed. Why does this matter? Because at that moment I actually stopped the Oslo Accord.

Woman: And despite that, one of our own people, excuse me, who knew it was a swindle, and that we were going to commit suicide with the Oslo Accord, gives them – for example – Hebron…

Netanyahu: Indeed, Hebron hurts. It hurts. It’s the thing that hurts. One of the famous rabbis, whom I very much respect, a rabbi of Eretz Yisrael, he said to me: “What would your father say?” I went to my father. Do you know a little about my father’s position?

…He’s not exactly a lily-white dove, as they say. So my father heard the question and said: “Tell the rabbi that your grandfather, Rabbi Natan Milikowski, was a smart Jew. Tell him it would be better to give two percent than to give a hundred percent. And that’s the choice here. You gave two percent and in that way you stopped the withdrawal. Instead of a hundred percent.” The trick is not to be there and be broken. The trick is to be there and pay a minimal price.

There are none. I thought that would be obvious. Instead, they are letting attrition do the job for them.

Agency finds Palestinian malnutrition

2002-08-06 04:00:00 PST Gaza City -- Malnutrition and anemia have reached troubling levels among Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip and are growing worse in the West Bank because of interruption of food supplies during the Palestinian uprising, according to a study commissioned by the U.S. Agency for International Development formally released here Monday.

The announcement was made as Israel banned most travel between Palestinian cities in the West Bank in response to surging attacks by Palestinian suicide bombers and gunners that killed 13 Israelis and foreign residents of Israel on Sunday and early Monday. Limitations on Palestinians' movements were cited in the nutrition study as prime causes of interrupted food supplies.

“Sexy Israel” getting treatment for flotilla nightmares

(Update below: Actress is Israeli and appears to have been commissioned on Hasbara gig)

I’m somewhat of a fool for excruciatingly bad Hasbara videos, but this one surely takes the cake:

From this video, we learn “Israel” is massively paranoid, even somewhat hysterical, believing edited second-hand evidence from biased sources (IDF spokesman’s video from the flotilla), suspicious of people trying to help her and storming out of treatment – so far so true. Apart from making rather poorly judged use of the experience of real women with real trauma, the July 1st video is also ridiculously sexist; beginning with the cheap camera-pan up the actress’s legs and ending with the fact it was first posted on Youtube a day earlier, under the title “Sex with the Psychologist”.

Is this for real? Your guess is as good as mine. This is so embarrassingly counterproductive one feels it simply has to be satire. But then again, so is our foreign policy.

Update: The actress is Tel Aviv based Aimee Neistat. Neistat confirmed to +972 it was her in the video, but declined to say who was behind it, and offered no comment on whether this was a government project. However, +972 was able to confirm through a source with knowledge of the actress’ engagement that the gig was indeed described at the time as a Hasbara video commissioned by the government. It’s unclear whether this was specifically the Information Ministry – we’ll confirm as soon as we get their response.

I wonder if the same genius who produced the fake "Gay Would-be Flotilla Activist" video did this one too...

Detroit FBI: Indictment unsealed due to watch list

DETROIT— The FBI says a 2009 indictment against a Canadian citizen accused of using a fake passport to try to get into Israel and conduct a bombing has been unsealed because the man recently was added to the list of most wanted terror suspects.

Detroit FBI spokeswoman Sandra Berchtold said Thursday the decision to unseal the indictment against 44-year-old Faouzi Ayoub on July 1 was made because he was added to the terror list two days earlier.

The indictment charges the Lebanese-born Ayoub with passport fraud. It says he wanted to gain entry into Israel and conduct a bombing on behalf of the Islamic militant group Hezbollah.

Berchtold says Ayoub is considered armed and dangerous and anyone with information about him should contact the FBI or nearest U.S. embassy or consulate.

It was somewhat OT but tangentially related since it is yet another example of why Israel might be somewhat cautious about who and what enters areas they control. I know some can justify what this wonderful Canadian gent allegedly tried to do, since Israel is so horrible, but even the horrible (excluding suicide bombers of course) have an instinct for self preservation.

How does keeping 1.7 million civilians in Gaza under severe blockade, with another 2.5 million civilians under belligerent and illegal occupation in the West Bank, all the while continuing to seize Palestinian land and expand its illegal settlements, actually help Israel discourage this type of incident ?

Excuses? No. Other side of the issue, yes.

And to WOM, reverse your logical question, how does attempting to illegally enter and perpetrate a bombing help with any of the problems you asked about? We can agree they are problems though, and issues needing to be addresses.
