Getting the DS230 packet together. This question may be Thailand specific.

My wife's original birth certificate is unavailable as the public records office burned many years ago. We were able to get a letter from the office stating she was born in the district. Per the embassy's guideline this is acceptable if submitted with her "family book."

My question is, does NVC want us to send the actual family book as the original document, or will they take a certified copy? I hate to send the book through the mail.

Many thanks if anyone has experience with this.

My husband's birth was recorded in the family book only. Never send this as they keep all you send. They accepted certified translation for his birth record. Hope this helps. Get several copies made. Need 1 for Immigration. 1 for your records, 1 for NVC, 1 for embassy interview.
