I have a question regarding RFE. Do they send the RFE early on in the process? We filed July 29th and we haven't received a word from USCIS (other than the bio appt info) does that mean we're mostly likely won't receive an RFE or can RFE's be sent anytime by USCIS?

Thank you!

no.

your file sits (for months). then when your file makes it to a desk/person, it is reviewed at that point. if it is incomplete or lacking evidence, an RFE will be generated.

RFEs come late in the game. they are not the end of the world though. it means that your file is being looked at.

Hi All,

Hope everyone is having a nice day.

Just a quick query: in two weeks time, I am heading to Japan with my wife for a conference. I believe that in order to travel, I need to take my expired GC (expired in October 2011), along with the form that extended my conditional permanent residence for a year.

Since this will be my first trip abroad since the original GC expired, I was wondering if anyone else has had the opportunity to travel abroad in a similar situation. And if so, did you take other documents? Did you have any difficulties re-entering the country?

Certainly hoping that when I get back in late February, there will be a happy package from USCIS waiting for me!

search 'travel ROC' on VJ. there are tons of threads dealing with this topic. many many people travel with extension letters with few problems.

just be sure to travel with the original extension letter. (not a copy!)

Hello There!

Based on my own experience, I would suggest you get a I-551 stamped on your passport prior to your trip to avoid delay / trouble at the airport. To do this, you have to make an INFOPASS online and you may want to act asap to "catch" for an earlier day.

Good Luck!

Good Morning all!

****WARNING*********RANT*********

:bonk:

Went to our Infopass appointment yesterday to discuss our RFE (it was the EXACT same letter that was posted here). WHAT A WASTE OF TIME!!!!!!!!!!! The guy looked at the things I had all nicely arranged in binding with numbered tabs and highlighted both of our names on documents and said, "Looks good - send it to California." ####### I could have talked to someone on the phone and been told that!! The national center person told me to go to local office to get more detailed information on exactly what was needed because I sent them everything I possibly could on that list back in July!! The guy here told me that most likely what happened is that they lost our documents or the documents and application got separated and they couldn't find them. ARGH!!! If that was the case then why not send me a letter saying, "Sorry we f'd up and lost your documents, can you please resend them?" Flippin' paid $7 to park for a grand total of 22 minutes, on top of round trip ferry fare for a trip that ended up being nearly 2 hours instead of 18 minutes because some psycho said he was going to blow up the boat with a bomb he had in his backpack. Then of course the 40 minute drive there after the ferry trip and I off nearly 3/4 of my day from work for this! The only nice thing of the day was that hubby and I had a nice lunch at Applebee's. Anyways, we priority mailed the packet off to USCIS. Oh and the guy at local office has NO IDEA why our case isn't coming up on the USCIS website or why it was there before and now isn't.
