My State requires a year long visa with at least 6 months left on it to get a Driver's License. What exactly will my fiancee's K-1 visa say? (Never seen one) It's not technically an immigrant visa, right? Will he be able to get one? I know we'd both like him to drive, but he will not be covered if he does not have a license.

The K-1 is a single entry visa, it is useles as soon as he enters on it.

It sounds like he'll need his GC...what state are you dealing with? The DMV for that state should have a list of of acceptable documentation. SOme places except an EAD for a licence some don't

And no, the K-1 is non-immigrant

Good luck

Topic has been moved from AOS forum to Working and Traveling During US Immigration forum as this is the more appropriate location to discuss Driver's License requirements

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

AH looking at your timeline you are not married yet so have not applied for AOS. In my state of Georgia and town of Augusta I could not get my license with my EAD as I tried and they said it was still pending further ID. AS soon as my AOS was approved I got a call from DDS to go and take my license test. They were notified oline to my approval so I got it without a physical GC, Most states have to wait for EAD card work authority.

Divorced !st November 2012.

Married only 2 years 1 month
