Well I guess it could be worse. USCIS could be completely ignoring us.

From what I've read on VJ, Wes and I were very blessed at our AOS interview with A) a professional and thorough examiner and B) an e-mail address in which to follow up on his 'approved pending namecheck' I485 -

Ever since our March 9 interview at the Pittsburgh office, we have had the ability to e-mail our adjudicator, Michael, and inquire as to the status of Wes' incomplete name check. I've used this priviledge about once every 6 weeks. At our interview, Michael told us to be patient and to not get discouraged. He said sometimes the checks are lengthy, and to not be afraid of falling into the 'black hole' - those were his words by the way. He encouraged us to use the email address to check on the petition, and each time I have mailed he has returned an answer. It's just that the mails always say the same thing - still pending.

Today I sent another mail - more plaintive this time as we are soon going to have to file for a second EAD. I also stated in the mail that our case is more than 30 days outside of their processing time. This time we got a phone call from Michael. Wes answered the phone (how's that for good proof of relationship - lol) and Michael told him again to please be patient. He said 'these things just have to run their course' and that his office has 'several' petitioners in the same boat. He assured Wes that as soon as the check comes back they will 'push the card through' as quickly as they can.

I guess at least our adjudicator is watching Wes' case.

I continue to post the details of our situation as I think it's kind of interesting from a VJ standpoint. Everything that has happened to us so far bears out what is frequently stated on this site. That USCIS can truly do nothing to speed the namecheck process (providing the adjudicator is doing their job - which I believe ours is) and they are at the mercy of the FBI.

Also as I've stated previously, Wes has a VERY common name. Not common in Northern Ireland, but common in the US.

Wes didn't think to ask Michael if there is any 'prodding' USCIS can do of the FBI. That's a question I will pose to Michael if this continues.

Sorry this part of the process has been such a pain the a$$ for you Rebecca... you're doing all that you can and it sounds like your adjudicator is conscientious.... you'll get there. Keep the faith.

Have you considered the fact that Wes is from Northern Ireland is the reason why his name check is taking so long? I note that at least one other person on this site with a husband from NI is also going through an extended name check. After all we know that FBI probably does a more extensive background check into people from states with terrorists.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm of course not saying your husband had anything to do with IRA or any other groups, just trying to theorise as to why FBI would be taking so long with your case.

HAHAHAHAHA! Jen, dr lha's point doesn't bother me in the slightest. In fact we have wondered it ourselves and indeed I would almost expect it.

Nonetheless, dr lha, you should note that my husband is protestant. He can't be in the IRA..... ;)

You let 'im off easy, Becc... Sceptor in the repair shop?

I'm glad to hear you're not offended, it certainly wasn't meant that way.

Nonetheless, dr lha, you should note that my husband is protestant.

I'm protestant Irish myself, albeit a generation removed. Best kind of people, big strapping people!

He can't be in the IRA..... ;)

OK then, the UVF. ;)
