SSN - What a Pain!

It's a real pain in the butt when you wait 2 1/2 weeks purposefully for them to get you into their system and then you go to file for an SSN and they still don't have your arrival record in there.

According to the SS office, it's pretty common for the K1s to be delayed and not in the system.

So now we've got to wait 3-4 weeks for them to verify her arrival and to get the SSN.

Talk about screwing up a lot of plans. We'll be lucky to have her SSN now by mid-July.

So glad we pay all of these fees for them to sit on their butts and not get their job done!

Look on the bright side, at least you can sit on your butts in the same country :)

i waited a month before going into the social security office, and they still did not have my K1 info.

the good news is that they sent me a letter telling me they looked into it and i should receive my card about 1 week after i visited the office, and then a couple days later, my card came in the mail.

i think you'll have your card by the end of the month. good luck.

Oh wow - finally she's crossed the border ?

Look, you must go back, apply again, use VISA name, ask them to look up in SAVE database in both A# and Visa name. Get a supervisor to do the search.

Then if they have any problem there, in real time, can't find her exactly in SAVE database,

The quickest thing to do is to get to CBP secondary / deferred inspection office IN YOUR AREA, fix the name, as the CBP officer at the border made a mistake .

but - it also might be that she's simply not there in the SAVE DATABASE YET. Come back in a few days, request a look up in SAVE by A#, request look up in SAVE database by VISA name.

There's loads of posts about this, have you found them ? search terms on advanced search -> 'SSA SSN SAVE' being sure to tick on 'show as posts'

Or you could simply ignore me, not worry about the SSN acquisition. I've written a lot about this, over the past year - hopefully you can find it in the advanced search tool.

---

FWIW - So now we've got to wait 3-4 weeks for them to verify her arrival and to get the SSN. - this is the Kiss of Death - brought about either by untrained SSA human at the SSA office who NOT know how to use SAVE Database, or by the SSA human NOT FINDING the exact spelling of the VISA NAME, but failed to look up by the A#. Go back on Monday, try again.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

The SS offices are the worst you hear of on visajourney. The personnel we encountered were untrained, incompetent, and in one case malicious.

Our congressman was useless. We had to wait until she got the green card, and even then this malicious employee did her best to try stopping us. Their first response to us was: she is not eligible for a social security number. They fought us from start to finish, until a brand new employee arrived with a different attitude. They probably fired her for helping too many people.

Some on visajourney say they travelled to a different SS office that had employees that knew what they were doing and did not act like petty tyrants. Some advise being a bulldog, showing them the law and demanding supervisors. We got them to enter her in the computer, but they did it wrong the first time so we had them change it. Then they lost the file. They would not let us re-apply because they said we had already applied. Then they said we should change our I-94 stamp. Commit a felony! Then they sent us a letter saying we had applied too late. It directly contradicted the first letter acknowledging receipt of our application months early.

They do not answer the phone. The message machine taunts you to leave a message that they will return, except the message box is full. Not one, but two security searches - take your shoes off, empty your pockets - nearly make yourself naked before them, take a number, and then from behind a bullet-proof window we will tell you "no". Go away. Less than ten feet from the petty tyrant is yet another big man with a gun. Three at the front door. At least four at the SS floor, probably more behind the one-way glass room there. Eight (visible) heavily armed paramilitaries. How many total? More, for sure.

Look at the lack of resources into doing a simple job: an immigrant, properly documented, needs a social security number. It is perfunctory: check the documents, and give the number. We ran that gauntlet of armed men again and again and got absurd answers. No, you can't do it. No, we can't enter it right. No, we do not know how to file things. How about one less armed man, say seven visible instead of eight - and just one more employee that was properly trained and with a cooperative attitude?

This is what the hysteria over "terrorism" has done to our country.
