CR-1 process...Timeline

I see so when its time for the DS-230 and AOS thats the IV Bill and such. I got the $325 off the I-169 Instructions for Immigrant Visa application. It's the checklist you send in with the DS-230 when you get all your required information and you send in to get your interview appointment. I assume that's part of the packet you get back form the NVC.

Is this an old form? There's so many out there now I just want to make sure. I guess once you send in your I-130 packet of stuff you just follow along what the USCIS and NVC send to you.

Also just wondering is it better to have all information sent to the US citizen and you send to spouse/fiance' or have the USCIS send directly to them? Nigerian mail is the worst at least postal service. We have letters ad cards we sent to each other when we first dated that never have arrived. I had cards once that arrived 6 months later. So much for that proof. (srry I digress  . Thanks for the info. Sorry to be such a chatty Kathy but so thrilled to be with people who know the way and willing to help. I am so grateful.

Have you read the GUIDES at the top of the page? That might be a good place to start to give you a feel of the flow of events.

Per form 169, I didnt have to fill anything that and I went through the IR1/CR1 process. The fees I quoted earlier is the latest from the department of state website.

When it gets to the stage of sending correspondence, you will fill out a form DS3032, and there the beneficiary will state whether he wants to be getting the correspondence or he can choose you as 'the agent', and have you receive all correspondence. These days most people go by email instead of receiving actual paper mail. In our own case as soon as we got to the NVC stage, we registered our emails and we both receive email correspondence and print them out. Trust me I know how Nigerian postal service is, and I wont ask you to rely entirely on that in communicating with the agencies.

Another advice, any question you have that is specific to Nigeria can be posted in African Sub Saharan forum and people with relevant experiences will be able to give info specific to your circumstance.

Okay so it goes like this right.

IV Bill=$404

I-864=$88

So added to

DS-230=$325

I-130=$420

Yikes $1267, Not to mention the medical which I can only imagine how much with all those test, xrays and such. Biometrics shouldn't be too much. Wondering how far in advance he should order his police records. hmmmm.

police report validity varies from country to country

Some are valid for 6 months and others 2-3 months.. Check with your countires police department

DCF is not an option. For Nigeria at least you have to be a permanent resident and have lived here 6 months from the start of the permanent resident status.

Well I am tenacious on things and pray things move faster. Seems things work faster for other countries so I pray I will get a fast moving clerk. that will gt things done.

But WOW 1 year? and not even an interview. More than likely I will be back to stay in a few months have to go back to states get some things done and get another VISA and wait and wait for the interview process. Thanks all for your input.

This is what it seems the average:

1. From filing the I-130 to NOA (approval) takes 5 months if all paper work were done correctly. If you qualify for expedite processing, it can only take like 2 months. If you get an RFE, it will be longer than 5 months. People get approved very quick too, like 3 months. The sad truth - USCIS people do not follow the first come, first serve basis.

2. From NOA2 to NVC. Usually within the first 10-15 business days you'll get your case number.

3. NVC process. This is something that you can control. If you're quick to pay the fees and send the required documents (complete and no error), your petition can fly in this process. Took 3 weeks for us.

4. Case Complete at NVC to assigning an interview date - depends on the consulate available slots for interview dates.

Of course, it's a case to case basis but that's our own experience and what I read from researching.

Good luck!
