Hi - Our NOA2 was sent to the London Embassy from the NVC on Tuesday, does anyone know if I can get my packet 3 forms (which are already prepared) sent in before having to wait for the packet 3 from the Embassy? If so how can I navigate this sensibly so as not to be TOO EARLY?

Also any ideas if this makes any difference to when our interview will be scheduled or is that purely dependant on when my medical takes place?

Thanks - sorry if these are obvious questions - eek! :)

Not sure how England may differ from Canada, which is where my fiance is immigrating from....but once we called and confirmed that Packet 3 had been logged as sent (the DOS should give you a reference number of it being sent), you can prepare and send packet 3 back.....you might want to check though....and I would post this same question in the England forum....I'm sure you will get more help there!

Good luck!

Start reading London instructions here:

http://london.usembassy.gov/kprocessing.html

Notice on the right it says

Note:
Only applicants who been notified by the Immigrant Visa Unit that a petition has been received in their name should complete the visa application forms. Forms received without the applicant's case number will be discarded.

They won't open the mail and get your file to the IV unit immediately so don't send yet.

Thats great - thanks for clearing that up for me!

You don't have to wait on the physical letter because it just has a link to the website to give you instructions, which you have (above). You can call DOS and they will know when London has "logged in" your case..meaning opened the mail and entered you into their system. Once DOS tells you London has you in their system, it's okay to mail the forms. It could take a couple of weeks, so no real need to harass DOS just yet.

If you've studied those links, you know that no matter how fast you send those forms back, until your medical results arrive, no interview will be assigned.

Good luck!

I was told by the $16 line that they mail packet four, giving your interview date, exactly 2 weeks after your medical results are in. It seems to be pretty accurate. The date they give you seems to be random. They can be 2 weeks later to 5 weeks later, like ours. Our packet was mailed on 6/2, and we got 7/11, but I have seen 5/20 dates get 6/10 interview. The earlier the medical, the better. We were almost too early, as our results came in a day before packet 3 was logged-- oops-- packet 3 can take 2-4 weeks to log. There is someone on VJ who can track the DHL packets into the Embassy. I was able to find ours, called the $16 line to confirm, and then we mailed our packet three 5 days later on the way to the medical.

That's assuming you've sent your DS-2001 in though :) I delayed sending mine because I was waiting on paperwork from "the Mrs".

Hey Nick-Nick,

I was following your links regarding the packet 3 and comparing it to the "http://london.usembassy.gov/ds2001.html" showing the Instructions for Immigrant Visa (K) Applicants Applying for a Visa in London.

This section, following the I130 for Immediate Relative application (CR1) shows that you only need 1x DS-230-Part 1 & DS 2001 with a covering letter. No mention of the 156/156k/157, is that right? Are those really only for the K Visas?

thanks!

Your process will be different than a K1 because you are married and will be getting a true immigrant visa. K1 is a non-immigrant visa processed by the Immigrant Visa Unit. I think of the K1 as a hybrid requiring some forms of non-immigrant and some procedures for immigrant plus their unique form DS-156K. (K for K visa) I call K1 the step-child of the IV unit because some of the generic letters they send out are written for immigrant visas and confuse K1s---like the letter that says to be sure and have your DS-230 part2. That is not a form for K1s ever.

If you are doing DCF, then your process is off the normal track that most spouse immigrants (IR1/CR1) do. They send their documents to NVC and you will be taking yours to the interview like the K1s do. The link you gave http://london.usembassy.gov/ds2001.html is your DCF instructions. Stick with those instruction and don't wander off into the K1 instructions and you'll be okay. You will need the I-864 at the interview, where K1s use the I-134 Affidavit of Support. The other documents taken to the interview will be the same.
