So, how do you guys feel about this?

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

I think it is disgusting. How people can have so little respect for other peoples property is beyond me. I think that it not only is an embarassment for Vancouver but for Canada in general.

Agreed.

It was a lot bigger than I thought it was initially.

There are people who riot because of fighting for civil right or humane practices. We had people riot over a hockey game. It just seems so silly.

True.

And it has nothing to do with being Canadian really. I've seen lots of cities all over the world riot because of a sporting event. I just wish it hadn't happened. It looks horrible.

I said to a friend of mine, right after the Choke-nucks lost Game 6, "At this point, as far as the Vancouver city government is concerned, it doesn't even matter. Win or lose game 7, they're gonna get a riot. They need to start prepping now" Can't say I'm surprised. And they shouldn't have been either.

DON'T PANIC

Embarassing for Vancouver and also for Canada - simply not the way to act just because your sports team lost. They didn't play well and they ended up with the result they deserved. Boycott the team if you must, but don;t disrepect others property.

Remember a few years ago when Italian Soccer fans were barred from watching their beloved Serie A teams due to violence and rioting? Vancouver or the NHL should consider a similar ban.

Win or loose those morons were going to Riot. Its pretty sad!! Lot of people were taking pics/videos, so hopefully they send them in to to the police

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Yes, it's definitely embarrassing for the city and country, but it's not a Canadian problem. There are idiots all over the world who take sports too seriously. In the US, we have riots when a team loses too, and wins for that matter. Stupidity is running rampant these days.

Remember some years ago, when the soccer player from Colombia kicked a goal in his own net, he was gunned down in the street for losing that game. Murder over soccer? C'mon...

SPORTS IS ONLY ENTERTAINMENT, WHY DO PEOPLE TAKE IT SO SERIOUSLY?

I agree that it is disgusting. I was on FB and looking at the group some people have put together to try and identify and report as many of the rioters caught on camera as possible; it literally makes me feel sick to my stomach to see the footage or to see men and women (girls and boys in most cases) posing with cheesy smiles or stolen items while cars and buildings burn int he background. I'm appalled at how brazen people can be.

Absolutely disgusting and I am thankful for the fact that we have something like Facebook were people CAN identify the rioters. Mob mentality kicks in and people think they can act however they want and then disappear into the night, and that just isn't the case anymore (thank goodness).

Y'all are right, though, it would have happened regardless of the outcome of the game. I have a feeling most of the rioters didn't even care very much about the game and were just looking for a reason to act like idiots - you don't come to a sporting event with hammers and fire accellerants in your backpack for no reason. I read somewhere that some guy admitted to bringing in a vehicle just so he could light it on fire. :wow:

Definitely keeping the city of Vancouver and it's citizens in my thoughts and prayers today.

eh Im from Montreal, i've seen so many riots since i was born its not funny, even had my brother participate. I think the issue is that i'm now so desensitized to it. its like "meh..so what...another day another riot shrug".

Like most things going on in the news...i just turn the page and read the next story. Sad i know..but its how alot of society is nowadays :( Even if we could reverse all that i dont even know how we'd do it..prolly the only way would be to go Amish..lol.

Have you seen any of the soccer moms or parnts at kids games lately? unfortuneately even the gradeschoolers crowds are almost as bad nowadays...its really sad.
