timeline stats cr-1 and k3

The guide says many people abandon k3 because cr-1 is quicker nowadays than it was and sometimes about the same time as k3..

However, the timeline statistics says the k3 takes 172 days from start to interview and cr-1 takes 334 days...

and the uk stats says it is almost a year from receiving a cr-1 approved petition from nvc through to interview !!!

am i reading this lot right ? it doesn't seem to fit with the guide that says cr-1 and k3 timelines are not that much different ?

anyone got recent experience of a cr1-1 via london ?

most bemused.. thank you

Many people do. What you are looking at in timelines is averages but there are many cases where I-130's are approved very quickly at the service center and then in conjunction with James Shortcuts, makes doing the the K-3 a waste of effort. My I-130 eg was approved in 45 days, some have been a lot quicker then that. It will always vary between cases, service centers and consulate. My CR-1 visa was granted 8 months after the I-130 was filed and we procrastinated somewhat. Over the past months in particular IMBRA has affected the I-129F processing for spouses at the NBC and approvals have been in general very slow going. CR-1's have been a more viable option for many over the past year.

Also, you have to factor in the days that you had to wait on the NOA1 receipt of the I-130 before you could submit the K3. I'm not sure if that is factored in on the K3 visa stats or not?

yes the processing time for the petition doesnt look too crazy but my k1 took about 3 weeks from nvc to interview and approval (i did the medical/police thing in advance and then asked for a cancellation appointment) - the stats for the nvc to interview for cr-1 is nearly a year ! - is that really the case or am i reading that wrongly - why would there be such a difference for the interview time after the petition is approved ?

Everything was fitting so perfectly until I saw the embassy interview times - it looks like you have to apply as soon as you reach puberty-just in case !

CR-1's are at NVC for minimum 2-3 months as this is where the bulk of the application for a visa is processed. It is also an immigrant visa which is vastly different then a K-1 or a K-3. CR-1 is the Green Card and nothing to do once entered the US like there is with a K visa. The wait times for interview once case is complete at NVC can vary anywhere from a week to a year depending on the consulate and the scheduling times they are running at, at the time.

ok thanks - so its a complete lottery - i got really confused when I saw the london interview wait alone was averaging a few days short of a whole year !

I suppose the complexity of the case is a factor- if its just the spouse it might be quicker than if it includes 10 kids...

right well i guess the thing is to get on with it and see what happens - but those averages are still scary !

many thanks

Wait times in London at present for interviews are to my knowledge running at approx 2 months from when consulate receives the case.

All the best with your journey

The language probably could be cleaned up--it's all sort of relative. When it says "cr-1 is quicker nowadays than it was and sometimes about the same time as k3.." bear in mind that just the I-130 took up to three years to process when the K-3 was invented.

The timelines fluxuate so much that there is not one clear cut answer (just like with any visa type). I always think of the K-3 I-129f as an insurance policy.
