Question regarding I-129F

Hey guys,

I would appreciate if someone could help my fiancé and me with question 18 on the I-129F form: "Has your fiancé(e) met and seen you within the two-year period immediately preceding the filing of this petition?". We just wrote a short story about us first meeting in Sweden in 2008 and that I then studied at the same college as him in the US and thereafter we've seen each other pretty frequently on visits made either by myself or my fiancé. Maybe not that exact wording, but you get the picture. It all fit in that little box on the I-129F, and it is kind of worrying me that it might not be enough details. Did you guys write a very specific list of how and when you met, dates for every time you've met and so on? And did you have to add an additional sheet with description or did you also fit it all in the little box? I guess it only states the last 2 years but I figured it would be equally as good to write every time we've met... Any help would be very much appreciated!

I'm so nervous about this whole process, and so scared that I will do something wrong which might delay the process even further, so I would really appreciate some help from someone who has already been through this!

Thanks again!

No expert but believe they just want to know if you seen each other durning the past 2 years. They will verify that you did later with your passport info . They will check things sounds like you have nothing to worry about

I am not sure if this is necessary but my lawyer did draft a cover page describing our story from first meeting all the way to I129F submission with all the circumstances, including engagement. At the end of the cover-page she had table of content. I had no RFE or problems. Hope this helps.

The size of the box is indicative of how long of a statement they expect. We took two sentences and had no issues.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

If it fits in the box, that is fine. Saying you made frequent trips, and perhaps listing the date range like "frequent trips between DATE - DATE", or just listing the date of the last one. You can show all the trips through your copies of boarding passes and passport stamps, so no reason to write out a long love story or itemized report of visits.

Thank you all for your replies!!!

I ended up including everything and now the I-129F packages has been sent off and it was delivered to the Texas PO box on Friday! So now we are waiting for our NOA1 and then I guess it's time to wait, wait, and probably wait a little more for NOA2 (and hopefully no RFEs)!

Out of interest mine was "I met Vanessa in person in 2008 when she came to the US and stayed for 2 months" or words to that effect. That was it. Passport stamps and ticket stubs proved the visit. That's just the met in the last 2 years part, not length of relationship so it's simple. No RFE's.

A box-sized answer may satisfy USCIS, but remember that the consulate will later receive what you've sent to USCIS. In some countries and consulates, a far higher level of detail that you provide USCIS now may ward off disaster during the visa interview. If you're not in a VWP country or a country with a consistently "easy" consulate, write a more detailed "evolution of relationship" statement and include it in the USCIS filing.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Agree and disagree. High-fraud consulates should DEFINITELY do an evolution of relationship letter BUT that box is dealing specifically with when you met in person. It need not be a book, they just need to know when you met in person (to prove it's within the 2 years).
