Socialism exists no matter at what level a government is at. Local vs. Federal is a different argument.

And it also exist at different levels of extremity. It can be limited, and should be imo.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Its convenient language usage... or convenient use of thought.

I hardly see extremity in FEMA's aid program.

Government inefficiency and a susceptibility to fraud. Further from the concept of what socialism is and quite detached from the OP.

It is a simple time of need, slim. Destroyed homes, people need help.

Insurance. Red Cross. Church groups.

Not my tax dollars.

I hardly see extremity in FEMA's aid program.

Have you no idea what FEMA is capable of?

Apparently, making you get angry at the idea of having to pay Federal taxes.

And why would working people who are trying to make a go of it during these times want to pay any more taxes to the Feds? Again this country is broke. It's broke for many reasons. Wall Street thieves, thieving lying politicians on both sides, thieving bankers, bs wars that this country has no need to be in nor can it afford them, illegal immigrants sucking off the system, jobs being moved over seas, Fed bail outs for white collar slime, unrealistic welfare policy's, government subsidy's to farm programs....welfare leaches...etc... The list goes on and on and on. It's bs like this that makes many US tax payers angry...and well it should.

It's time to tighten the belts and cut the fat while were at it.

FEMA assistance is not very fat compared to the rest of that list you put up there. But thanks for sharing your perspective. I am sure you would opt out of a federal insurance program covering your home right?

Agreed that FEMA is a drop in the bucket compared to other bs expenditures in the country...but it's another thing to be cut.

I would like the choice to buy Fed insurance for my home. Choice being the key word in that sentence.

We kinda covered that already.

Focus your efforts of rage on the big fish.

Better yet all the fish. This country needs some major changes imo, including attitudes.

Firefighters and police are LOCAL govt. agencies. My quarrel here is with a FEDERAL govt. agency. See the difference? Wanna try again?

If it was simply a time of need I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it. However, anything the government does goes on way too long, costs way too much money, and ends up building a pattern of dependency.

I'd be really mad if I was them! I'm mad enough and my state is in nowhere near as bad shape as some of theirs.

See above. Local vs. federal. Very simple, really. Please try again.

Considering that you appear to be arguing for no disaster assistance of any kind, at all, that doesn't seem to be a meaningful distinction.
