we need a single payer homeowner's insurance - with penalties for not carrying it, just like the health insurance :hehe:

Many mortages make homeowners pay additional insurance premiums anyway. Are you going to complain about those too?

it's not that they make you pay additional insurance premiums - having insurance is part of the contract for the loan - or the mortgage company will give you insurance at a significantly higher rate than you could find on your own.

same for if you buy a car with a loan.

That's an excellent idea! Where are all those libtards on this one?

Additional insurance only equals LESS from the government.

Ensure your beneficiary makes and brings with them to the States a copy of the DS-3025 (vaccination form)

If the government is going to force me to exercise my "right" to health care, then they better start requiring people to exercise their Right to Bear Arms. - "Where's my public option rifle?"

Indeed. Get insurance or pay more. You pick.

Yeah slim, that's why two posts have already stated that FEMA payments are less than insurance payments. ;)

For which an application to FEMA for relief funds (aid or loan) can be made in the unfortunate case of a natural disaster.

If you want to legislate that homeowners that reside in disaster-prone areas seek insurance policies or opt out of Federal disaster relief if they do not purchase insurance, then go for it. I know that most mortgage companies pretty much make their purchase mandatory just based on cost, as you stated previously.

I don't care if it's only $1. The government should not give money away.

If you close the agencies making the payments there's no need for legislation. People simply deal with their own problems!

Well you and I know that these agencies will not be closed or defunded for a significant amount of time. I guess you'll have to learn to live with this attempt of government serving its citizens.

i'd agree to that.

So would I... this really cuts out the excuses and at least gives people the choice to protect what's theirs under more realistic circumstances.

Though, I'd say most of the midwest and south would not be a disaster area with the exception of flood plains.

You have tornadoes, huge thunderstorms, blizzards, etc... its not as quiet outside the flood areas as you might think. And with predicted weather extremes getting worse due to GW, you can imagine what this would do to insurance premiums.

There aren't tornado building codes though generally. Its about repeating cycles. For instance, while in the US Tornadoes kill more ppl on average than earthquakes, a building is less likely to be struck.

For instance, in California if your in an area where the chances are 1 major earthquake in 500 years you have to meet code. For Tornadoes in say oklahoma or kansas the odds are closer to 1 in 5000 years.

On the floodplain issue sure, the midwest has plenty since all of the major US rivers meet there -Platte, Missouri, Mississippi, Ohio.

Why doesn't FEMA buy you a new car when you crash yours?

I wonder which ones will fall first once the country goes bankrupt.

I will not live with it. I will attempt to change it.

If we start doing stuff like that, wouldn't we also have to stop paying people to sit at home and watch cable? I mean, we are talking about personal responsibility and all. Where would we draw the line?

If you start requiring people to be responsible for themselves you'll have to do it across the board.

The federal government offers flood insurance too.

then florida would be prime territory for that, as tornadoes do come with hurricanes.

Excellent logic going on there, slim. I can only imagine I am responsible for the tornados, hurricanes, thunderstorms, and lightning that strike people with fury.

The rest is a typical selfish rant of someone that perhaps belongs about 6-7 centuries in the past. Perhaps you should read the more realistic dialogue charles and I are having.

Water spouts for floating homes too.
