POE - personal belongings value

I couldn't find an answer on the forum and I am crossing Wednesday :

When you active your K-1, do you need to provide an estimate worth for the personal belongings you are travelling with? If so, how do you estimate used clothes value...? I am just taking 2 luggage of clothes, shoes and some jewelry. Do I need to go over everything and estimate the total worth?

Any advise is welcome. Thank you!

There is really no way to estimate clothing value unless you just bought it. If the jewelry is expensive or worth something and you have an idea on it's cost you could put that down.

I never included the value on any of my personal belongings when I brought them in across the border. I also used a professional mover and had much more than 2 suitcases and some jewelry - it still wasn't a problem not having a valuation of the items. You may wish to list certain expensive items for your own protection if you need to pursue insurance (eg if you have some expensive pieces of jewellry) but other than vehicles, as Krikit mentioned, generally value is not requested - you should be fine. btw - you have up to ten years after you move to bring over any of your other belongings duty free - and that can include items from a parent's home in which you lived as they would count as part of your property for immigration purposes.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Ahhh Krikit, I think you may be attempting to educate me here. Complete waste of your time :P

When I was trying to learn everything I could about the proper procedures for this process, I would read and read. I would email myself anything that was to long to read right then and there, or information that I knew I would need. This was one of those things I emailed to myself. So when I saw the OP question, I just went into my email, and found the thread I had kept on this topic.

So I may have been a bit on the lazy side with my reply

Thank you everyone for taking time to reply. Much appreciated :)

Have a good POE by the way! I had written down every single item in each luggage in case I was asked for it (i was flying), but that never came up during my POE.

I crossed at the Thousand Islands crossing on May 30th with my fiance, his SUV and a UHAUL trailer of belongings. I had a list all prepared of the contents of each box, and they didn't even bother to look at it. They asked to have the UHAUL opened, and checked to be sure it was boxes (and not, like, people I guess) but other than that, I had nothing else to delcare, record or list.
