Hi guys...

i would like to know... when do we select for which language we would like to be interviewed in...

im talking about a translator during the Visa interview...

I checked Form - DS230 and i didnt find any place that we can request for a translator...

Hi guys...

The Consulate will be prepared to interview in any of the common local languages or in English. No need to request a translator in advance unless there's some special circumstance like only speaking French when interviewing in India etc.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...

I am pretty sure that they have Hindi available. I would not be surprised if they had Gujarati translators available as well.

I know for a fact that they have signs at the consulate in Mumbai written in 2 languages, English and Hindi. I believe I have read and heard about signs in Gujarati as well.

If you could please post back here after you or your spouse's interview I would really appreciate it.

I thought that every Indian speaks English , except those who live in the slums ; but , watching slum dog millionaire movie, even those in the slums speak English too.

U asked the question and u answered it ur self... ITS A "MOVIE"

The interviewing officer has a american accent which is tough to understand when u are interviewing... on top of that ur already nervous during the interview... what is u dont understand the question correctly and answer something else... so its better to opt of a translator during the interview...

In most cases, it wouldn't be a translator. The actual Consular Officers are usually competent in the local language. If they need help, they'll call somebody over. This is a non-issue.

Agreed. Most Indian people that study in the English standard are use to the British English accent. American English is a totally different ballgame.

Could you imagine getting someone from down south, Kentucky or some parts of Ohio where I am from? Good Lord, it would be down right impossible for some of these people to understand the CO if they were from this part of the USA.

I have been to India 3 X and many of our Indian reps had come to visit here.

We always joke that it is one of the Asian countries where Americans need not translator . Likewise with Singapore, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand.
