My wife is a citizen of Brazil with a U. S. Permanent Visa.

I am a U. S. Citizen.

Brazil is a Hague Convention country.

Her family in Brazil knows of a rape victim that is past the legal abortion stage. She does not want to keep the child when it is born.

She wants to sign over the child, when it's born, to my wife and I.

Is this possible?

What would be the process involved, and what procedures would we have to follow if we get a lawyer there to handle the legal papers for signing the child over to us?

Please only reply if you have accurate information.

Thanks in advance.

No it is not possible, sorry. To adopt for immigration, the child must be an orphan.

Nothing to stop you adopting the child in Brazil if local laws allow, and pay for its education there (maybe look into bringing it over on an F1 student visa later, but that involves paying for private school and won't lead to a greencard).

you should contact an attorney or agency that deals in international adoptions.....she can not just sign the child over to you if i remember correctly......the child must be abandoned.....

the child then must be adopted in its own country by the adoptive parents...most people have an attorney in that country take care of that part of it.....then visa petition for relative by the adoptive parents......

Before making a choice in this contact someone that is really knowledgeable about international adoptions

i did ask my mom about this as she adopted me from Guatemala.....this is what she told me and very strongly advised not doing anything before contacting someone first........
