SA police check

I applied for a police check yesterday at my local police station ( already filled out the form and printed it, also copied the identification docs i took, birth cert and passport, for them). I went in and gave the guy my form and he barely looked at it then told me that it would be fifty dollars or whatever it is. I then told him that, no, it is $159 because i need background check AND fingerprints. Long story short, he proceeded to tell me that in all his 25 years experince as a cop he had never had anyone requiring fingerprints for a visa check so i got all confused and gave up and jsut said 'Yeah, okay just do it how you think'.

When i got home i looked it up again and realised that i DO need fingerprints done. i called him back and he found my form, looked at it again, and admitted that i was right and he was wrong and to come back in tomorrow and get them done.

I went back in today, got them done after confusing the cops a little, lol. this other cop also couldn't understand why i needed them and asked if i had a letter from the consulate saying that i need them, i said no but asked him to do them anyway. He nicely obliged and my application for my police cert is FINALLY done, lol.

The police officers were very nice about it and i could tell that they'd never encountered this before so i did really appreciate their help and efforts. but just some advice, If the police try to tell you any different, just remain totally adamant of what you need from them, lol

Rot roh. I thought i would be proactive and applied for (and received) my national police clearance about two weeks ago. I paid the 50 buck version. Given that you are one step ahead, and I will be dealing with the same local constabulary, I guess now I am going to have to apply for the fingerprint version.

I'd love to know what things I can get done whilst we are waiting for the NOA2 and what we have to wait to do.

Glad to hear you are full steam ahead though.

Jenn

Ah, yeah thats what i did yesterday! lol, then i came home and looked it up again and you definitely need the fingerprints version. the poplice officers were so confused, lol. they were really helpful though, i got a young welsh bloke helping me in the end he was pretty interested in hearing about the whole visa process and stuff :)

But i would be happy to keep you updated with various things as i go, i'm going fo my medical in melbourne on july 11th, i probabyl couldve got it earlier than that but still need a letter from my doctor next week. Butttt, call and double check with whichever physician you wanna see cos some will do it before NOA2 :)

but i had anothe post on this forum about the medical and i got a lto of helpful replies on that, i'd check that one out :)

I am in Adelaide and will have my interview on 14th. Will fly to Sydney tomorrow. Let me know if you guys have any questions that i might be able to help.

Yes, we DO need the finger print national police check. (i did it in April, thought it might be around $170...can not remember exactly...but anyway! take the instruction/requirement form online -- think it is somewhere on US embassy in Canberra's website. If the guy in the police station are confused, show them.)

I was delayed from my own schedule about return the Pkg 3. It took like 10 days for my fiance to mail me his all stuff (tax return, support of affiliate). just remember that you could almost DO everything ahead!!! (i mean before your NOA2 approved!!) Just remember: Medical exam has 1 year expiration-- you need some medical information after you enter USA, so just be careful not to get it way too early, depending on what status you are now for your NOA2. hmmm...also police check, better not to be too old. So I would say, after 5 months you submitted your Pkg1, you could start do all these things.

Good luck!!

i am very nervous now....about the interview. ONE STEP AWAY!!!!! :o

How exciting that you have your interview. I am trying to wish away the hours in hope that we hear something, but have only really just started this journey. Will go and get the fingerprints done this week, after having only just forked out the 50 bucks for the national police clearance. Oh well. I take it getting all the info for the affidavit of support can be gained ahead of time?

Just a hint from someone that went through all this last year and is now a green card holder ... Don;t apply for your finger prints too early as if they are older than 6mths you will have to re apply and pay all over again. Yes you do need finger prints as well as a National Police clearance Cetificate. For the people in SA go to Wakefield Steet Police station they know exactly what you need some of the suburban stations have never done this and will question as to why you need them done.

Good luck everyone I know how you are all feeling and how stressful this is but believe me there is more to come LOL Kathy

Hi Everyone!!

So Glad to hear from other South Australians!! I went down to my local police station to day, with my filled out national police clearance and the lovely officer said that i needed a federal police clearance? Im so confused - but by reading your responses, i need a national clearance, with a fingerprint check?

My I-130 was approved and its on its way to the NVC - i havent received anything from them, and my husbands lawyer in the US is our authorised rep, so im assuming he will get the information etc. But i just wanted to get everything out of the way which is why i went down to the local police station.

If anyone could help me on what It is exactly i need, I would be forever grateful - the waiting is driving me crazy!!

If anyone could help me on what It is exactly i need, I would be forever grateful - the waiting is driving me crazy!!

First, you can go to: http://www.sapolice.sa.gov.au/sapol/services/information_requests/national_police_certificate.jsp

download and fill the National Police Certificate application form, and take with you all the required identity docs.

I would also suggest you to print out the 'finger print' requirement from US Canberra's website, in case the police officer do not agree to provide fingerprint for visa purpose ( I met one, and he was very confused and asked me if it is necessary to do a finger print check until I shew him the requirement from embassy's website).

Also you can find the fees: http://www.sapolice.sa.gov.au/sapol/services/information_requests/national_police_certificate/national_police_certificate_fees.jsp

it is the most expensive one: Fingerprints and history check: $163.00

I also went to the Wakefield police station ( I tried the one on Hindley, but they could not provide that service) So if you can go to CBD easily, i really suggest you to go to Wakefield.

If you have all the form filled, identity docs completed, fee paid, then you will spend quite sometime getting your finger print! (It took me a while...since the machine is not that sensitive and I had to redo several times).

Also, each state is different. No need to look at what is needed for NSW and etc.

AND, i guess the medicine check is now a pain! Dr Miller already retired and there is no qualified doctor in SA to do K1/R1 visa medical exams...(I was almost the last one before he retired!!!) not sure if they have replacement yet (the lady in Dr. Miller's office told me there might be one in Septenmber, but she is not 100% sure). If there is still no such doctor, you might need to go to Melbourne to get one --arrange your time before hand, since otherwise you might have to spend 2 or 3 days in Melbourne.

Good luck!
