Because you say so? Perhaps nukes are just another reason why that body is so important.

The US never came close to matching the USSR with ground forces and tanks in regards to Europe. The reason it didn't had zero to do with the UN and everything to do with mobile nuclear missile's on subs and planes. Since the UN was formed tens of millions died in China, and Stalin was still killing people off like fly's in the USSR. By then though Russia had nukes thanks to the Rosenburgs.

If you take a look at the Yalta Conference the slaughter of Eastern Europeans was already laid out thanks to Roosevelt, Churchill, and Stalin. Stalin would have taken a bigger bite after Berlin if it wasn't for the fact the US dropped two A-bombs on Japan to let the Russians know what we had.

You can thank Nagasaki and Hiroshima for stopping any kind of wars in Europe on the size and scale of WW2.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Without the UN, or an forum for international cooperation, you take the world back to where it was just before WW1.

I see. You're hung up on the bit about the "without an international forum" part. When in doubt, take 101% literally. I know this game well, mr woodchuck.

Without a forum for international cooperation, you have unrestricted imperialism.

this isn't the 1900's

The League of Nations failed when imperialist countries - starting with Germany - withdrew from it. World War II followed soon. Something to keep in mind when you hear all this nutso talk of abandoning the UN today. We can learn from history or repeat it. I'd rather we learn.

First off a nation does what it deems best in it's own interest. Whether Germany remained in the League of Nations or not, it wasn't going to change the fact Hitler was still going to make a play on Europe. When Germany was in the League of Nations it was violating the rights of Jews...and the League did zero about it. The same members of the League handed over a chunk of Czechoslovakia to Germany and Poland. So who was helping the rights of the Jews and/or Czechoslovakia ?

Now move forward to the UN. Anyone that thinks the UN stopped Stalin from taking a bigger grab of Europe needs to have their head examined. It was nukes that kept that genocidal maniac from moving even further west. When the US dropped two A-bombs on Japan it did two things...it brought the Japs to their knees and it sent a message to Stalin that the same thing could very well happen to Moscow if he got any idea's of moving further west. This still didn't stop Stalin and his commie pr*cks from murdering Eastern Europeans like it was open season on them. The UN did zero in regards to the Iron Curtain and the occupation of Eastern Europe. The UN didn't stop Mao from killing well over 40 million people and invading Tibet. The UN did zero when Pol Pot was committing genocide in Cambodia.

The UN is nothing short of a sick pathetic joke who's only interest it serves is the permanent members of said joke.

Charles-speak. Roughly translated as:

"I am rubber you are glue, if I am so are you".

Yeah we've been here umpteen times before Charles - I know exactly what you're going to say and you never surprise.

It's like some bizarre game of chicken - as if you perceive that not replying exposes some sort of weakness.
