My mom got her IV last week, now it is time to come to America. I live in Springfield, MA. For my mom to travel here the two closest airport requires connecting flights. My concern is will hour and half be enough for her to go through immigration, then catch her final flight?

The airline schedule is on their website, the concern is how long immigration may take to process her for her to get on the connecting flight.

I will say pick a later connecting flight just to be safe.

I thought when you are just connecting you don't go through immigration until your connecting flight lands.

The first airport the beneficiary lands in in the US (unless a pre-clearance port) will be the POE. If the beneficiary flies from, say, Brazil to NY but connects in Miami, Miami will be the POE

From my work with immigration at the airport I can tell you there are several factors to consider: how many people are on her flight (remember everyone on the flight will have to clear customs), how many flights are coming in around the same time, and how many agents will be working at the time frame the flight will be entering.

I've seen it take 10 minutes for someone to clear and I've seen it take 3 hours for the last person on a flight to be cleared. I personally was wearing my airport credentials and it still took my 20 minutes to get through the employee line (which only had 5 people in it). Remember you never know what issues might arise in front of you. An hour and a half is a good time frame, however, if you can push for at least a 2 hour window it will be better.

Congrats on your Mom's arrival! I wouldn't chance it. As others have said, you have to consider a lot of other factors when coming through POE. I would rather play it safe...allow more time for her connecting flight!

If she misses her connecting flight, usually the airline is great about getting her on the next flight out, but she has to go to the airline ticket counter (leaving the security area) with all of her luggage.

I am sure yo have traveled back and forth home to Jamaica, so my question to you is this, why would you book a ticket for your mother on an route that you yourself have not travel within. Why not use the same airports that you have experience with, this way you can at least inform your mother what to expect at the point of POE. i.e where to pick up her luggage for the next flight, where the next flight terminal maybe etc.

I can definitely relate to this.. I live in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. The ONLY flight option from Kingston is American Airlines. Fly from Atlanta to Kingston .. it increased t two just sad.
