You could reasonably expect a trip to secondary, but as long as you are not pushing it you should be OK.

How can you be so sure about it. Is it written anywhere?

Its not written somewhere its how the immigration works, for example lets take someone who has never applied for any kinda visa.

If they apply for ESTA today and they are approved until 2012. Now next week if this person applies for a F1 visa and gets denied, this person would not be able to travel on ESTA.

Coz to grant a person entry or not is based on the recent event and not from an earlire one.

In your case your F1 denial was the most recent, hence your ESTA is no longet valid.

wow! i am surprised you got approved. I applied under ESTA and travel was not authorised last month and my denial was last year under the same F1 being denied. maybe it is due to luck.

its not luck, ESTA approval for the previous poster does not mean a guranteed entry, its all upto CBP officer and previous F1 denial and F2A in the process all are red flags.
