I-751--Mail in Green card as well?

Wow, 2 yrs has nearly passed and almost time to send in the I-751 next week. Does one require to mail in the actual wallet sized green card with ur 751 application? Trying to head back to Canada over the Thanksgiving long weekend so hoping I can keep the card--or get the letter that extends it for a yr until one gets the official 10 yr card (hopefully without an interview!!!)

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

It does not ask for the GC in the I-751 instructions, so I would not advise sending it.

Didnt see them in there. I thought I read awhile back about a few people getting further instructions to mail them in. I may have been incorrect. thanks

No, you don't need to mail in the green card. In fact, it would be illegal for you to do so. Paragraph d of INA 264 requires all aliens that have been issued a Green Card to carry that card with them at all times.

Later on in the process, they may send you a letter explicitly requesting your original Green Card. A literal reading of INA 264 says that it would be illegal for you to comply with that request, but I suspect that nobody would prosecute or convict you for doing so.

04 Apr, 2004: Got married

05 Apr, 2004: I-130 Sent to CSC

13 Apr, 2004: I-130 NOA 1

19 Apr, 2004: I-129F Sent to MSC

29 Apr, 2004: I-129F NOA 1

13 Aug, 2004: I-130 Approved by CSC

28 Dec, 2004: I-130 Case Complete at NVC

18 Jan, 2005: Got the visa approved in Caracas

22 Jan, 2005: Flew home together! CCS->MIA->SFO

25 May, 2005: I-129F finally approved! We won't pursue it.

8 June, 2006: Our baby girl is born!

24 Oct, 2006: Window for filing I-751 opens

25 Oct, 2006: I-751 mailed to CSC

18 Nov, 2006: I-751 NOA1 received from CSC

30 Nov, 2006: I-751 Biometrics taken

05 Apr, 2007: I-751 approved, card production ordered

23 Jan, 2008: N-400 sent to CSC via certified mail

19 Feb, 2008: N-400 Biometrics taken

27 Mar, 2008: Naturalization interview notice received (NOA2 for N-400)

30 May, 2008: Naturalization interview, passed the test!

17 June, 2008: Naturalization oath notice mailed

15 July, 2008: Naturalization oath ceremony!

16 July, 2008: Registered to vote and applied for US passport

26 July, 2008: US Passport arrived.
