we filed an AOS with AP to the Chicago lockbox on May 16th.

as of today June 9th, we have no NOA1, and our check has not been cashed.

my questions:

1. is this normal? (we have postal confirmation of delivery)

2. will our case be transferred to the infamous Memphis, TN ?

3. What can we do if we suspect a USCIS problem

as we now know state of TN cannot issue a driver permit because the

USCIS could not confirm wife's status in the USCIS computer system

that links to the TN system ????

we are very puzzled and a little worried ?

wonder if anyone and esp Gary& Alla have any wisdom on this one ?

1. Very Much Normal. It can take from a few days to over a month to receive your NOA

2. No way to find out other than to wait!

3. Even though for sure you know the package has been delivered, your package has NOT been opened, which means it is not in the system yet.

Remember there is thousands and thousands of people submitting their AOS. All packages are send directly to the mail room. So just try to imagine the amount of mail that gets delivered daily. From there it gets sorted accordingly and then taken to the next office/department which then gets a sorted more for distribution to employees to process. and so on and so on. Imagine how many packages each employee receives a day in a basket because I'm sure they don't get about 5 a day. The questions are how packages are in a basket/bin, how many packages can employee process a day and how long will it take to process all the package in that basket/bin?

My husband submitted his AOS in March so we have been in your shoes and still are! So only thing to say is wait and goodluck for a smooth process!good.gif

Also, recommend you join the May 2011 AOS Filers so you can follow along with other May filers and provide support to eachother.

I do not want to alarm you but this is not normal now. Yes, there is a way to find out. Call them. I have sent it on May 16th, They received it May 19th, NOA1 dated May23, Biometrics scheduled for June 17th. This is the same facility so they process them as they come. Thus yours should of been already processed especially considering same day as mine. Do NOT wait. Call them. It may be something wrong with the fees.

There is another case, same date. They sent wrong fees. Check with them!!

One problem with this site is that it has a lot of outdated information, such as fee schedule for AOS. You may made a mistake there. It is $1,070 now.

I don't think its necessary to scare the OP. Many cases have been taking 30 days before they get issued a receipt number. You got lucky, as did I. Most likely when you call they will ask you to wait 30 days. If you see the March, April and May filers you will see that a lot of them waited too. Why, I don't know. I mean it's weird that some get opened right away and some don't, but if you have confirmation from the courier you should be okay.. I know its human nature to panic and worry, but there's really not much to do at this point.

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

I am not scaring, I am trying to make OP starting acting. If you look at the post today (another post), same thing: filed wrong fees and did not know. Only after they called they found out. There is no problem. Most likely, just incorrect fees or something minor. However, it is better to find out know instead of sitting and waiting. See the thread below:

I recommended to call and they did and found out.

Yes of course, go ahead and try to call. But the time frame isn't too bad or abnormal as of now, since USCIS always says to wait 30 days for their notices. No harm in calling, but I just wouldn't panic yet, OP. :)

Given the evidence of recent cases filed and receiving at least initial action (acceptance), your case file submission may have flaws. This would place the case file into a secondary stage, requiring additional scrutiny/analysis. Hard truth, but it is the way USCIS conducts business.

You should sit tight at this stage and await notification from USCIS for a period to not exceed 30 days. If your case goes beyond that, you may wish to schedule a Info pass appointment at your local USCIS office for clarification.

It's still normal at this point. Give them the 30 days, at least.

My wife's took 14 days though it seemed a lot longer because a few others got news within one week. But, there were many others who had to wait 30 days or even a little longer. Sometimes, you get the luck of the draw and get a quick response, sometimes you don't.

And, just to let you know, how quickly you receive your NOA1 has nothing to do with how fast AOS will go after that. I've seen two fellow March filers who received their NOA1s after my wife did already have their Green Cards and several others already have interviews scheduled while we still wait. It all evens outs in the end. Or, at least, that's the theory.yes.gif

N-400

Feb. 12, 2016 - Sent N-400 to USCIS (3-year rule)

Feb. 19, 2016 - NOA1

Mar. 14, 2016 - Biometrics

June 2, 2016 - Interview - Recommended for Approval

I agree with this. I got my NOA1 in a week, and my friend got it in 30 days. I applied April 5th and got the mail notice the 11th and she applied March 31st and got the notice April 30th. I got my EAD/AP approval June 1st, and hers June 3rd. We both got transferred to CSC days apart. It does even out.

We filed on May 10th and haven't heard anything yet. Our lawyer hasn't received a copy of our NOA1 either and will call on Monday if we don't receive a notice over the weekend. Monday is the 13th and 30 days would have passed since they received the package, which is the only reason I'm ok with waiting until Monday. Don't panic yet, and it cannot hurt to call, but if 30 days hasn't passed yet they may not have much to tell you.

Our timeline:

1993: Met at the age of 9, best friends ever since

2007: Admitted what we both knew all along...

December 25,2008: He proposed!!!!

May 9, 2009: Got married

May 10th, 2011: Date that lawyer claimed he mailed out AOS package

July 14th, 2011: Date that lawyer *actually* mailed out AOS package

July 18th, 2011: USCIS started processing our application

July 30th, 2011: Received Biometrics Appointment (8/11/11)

August 1st, 2011: Successful Biometrics walk-in

August 3rd, 2011: Received all NOA hard copies

September 12, 2011: Card production notice for EAD (!!!)

September 13, 2011: I765 touched

September 19, 2011: EAD arrived in the mail

December 28, 2011: Received email notification of our interview date

February 1, 2012: Interview

February 29, 2012: Approval notice via email(!!!)

March 7, 2012: Card arrives in the mail (!!!)
