Hi guys,

I called my local GP about getting some of the vaccinations I need.

They said they only do Influenza when its the season, I have never had the Influenza shot before. Is there no way I can get it before flu season?

anyone got experience with this.

I guess otherwise I just get it done when I get the medical? Correct?

If the UK is anything like Guangzhou, they will only accept vaccinations by their designated medical exam facilities. Seems kind of silly to me, but why should this part be any different than the rest of the process :wacko: Best bet is as you said, get the vaccinations done at the time of the medical exam.

Are you sure you need the flu shot? Some of the vaccines are only required if they are age appropriate.

If you do need it:

Your GP is not obilged to vaccinate you under the NHS if the vaccine is not a necessary one. (i.e. is for travel purposes) You can ask about having it done privately, or wait until you have your medical at Knightsbridge and they may be able to do it there.

Its only required if you are in flu season! same thing happens in Canada. They only require that shot for the medical if its flu season.

You don't need it if its not winter time =)

I'm 28 FYI

I am 27.

Many on the list were 'Not age appropriate' for me.

Make sure you've had your MMR (I had to have it at my medical and then I was tested for immunity for AOS). Get a Tetanus shot (they checked I had had 2 in recent years).

Also check whether you've had Chicken Pox. If you have not they will require you to get the Varicella vaccine.

Also make sure you have a copy of all your childhood vaccinations.

The UK will accept vaccinations performed by your own GP, not just those given by the approved medical. Knightsbridge Doctors will fill out the form stating the vaccines they have records for.

Flu season is Oct 1 - Mar 31. If it is not flu season on the date of your medical exam, then the flu vaccination is waived.

Not true in the UK. If your GP gives the immunizations, they are accepted by the Knightsbridge clinic panel physician.

From what I understand you just need that if you're under 5 or 50+ years old. Can't deduct your age from your profile so not sure if this information helps you in any way, but can't hurt, right?

That was Changed to everyone older than 6 months in November 2010 for the 2010-2011 flu season. See the CDC link for details http://www.cdc.gov/immigrantrefugeehealth/exams/ti/civil/updates/action-recommendations-flu-vaccine.html

The 2010-2011 flu season is now over but the flu shot is on the most current immunization charts for those under 50. A new reccommendation could come out for 2011-2012 flu season.

well, i had checked the official immunization chart and it said flu for ppl older than 50 and some lil kids. so not my age at all - and i had th medical in germany 2 days ago and the doc said my vaccinations are all right.

so i believe u shouldnt need it at all - be sure and check the uscis vacc chart - the link was posted in some earlier thread.
