Our K1 case apparently was sent back to USCIS without us knowing it and after the CO said we were approved, kept my passport and made us pay for domex. USCIS told us we have to wait another 120 days to know whats going on (4 months) and we just want to get married and live anywhere as long as we're together. Can anybody tell me where (in Santiago or Santo Domingo) I can translate my fiance's birth certificate to Spanish so we can get married here in the DR?

It would be easier for him to translate it here in the states. I translated my birth certificate here with a company which only charged me $32.5 and took 1-2 days. They sent me an email with the translation for approval and another one with the scanned original. A couple of days after I had it in the mail. I am sure that English-Spanish translations are even cheaper that that.

P.S I did everything online and on the phone. Just scanned and emailed them the original and like I said had the translation certified and notarized in about a week.

Let me know if you want me to give you a contact email or phone/website of the place.

Do you really want to scratch all the hard work and patience (not to mention money) to get married in your country and have to wait even longer to get to the US??? Call them and email. Someone has to know something about your case right?!?

When we prepared to get married I called the Dominican Consulate in Los Angeles (I am the US Citizen and my husband is the DR citizen) and they helped me with all the documents I needed for marriage in the DR. He will have to get an apostille for his birth certificate AND a notarized statement of "single status". The dominican consulate sent me a template for that via email.

I sent off my birth certificate with apostille and the notarized declaration of single status to the dominican consulate. They charged a couple hundred bucks but we felt it was worth it because it was official from the consulate. There may be other ways to do this but this is the way that was recommended to us.

Good luck and I am so sorry that you two are having to go through all of this :(

Have you tried talking to your congressman or senator? They may be able to help you resolve things much more quickly.

It can make your case only more complicated if you get married in DR while you still have something pending with USCIS. I can understand your frustration, but like gigi said do you really want to take the risk of waiting even longer to come to the US? I think it will just bring you guys more obstacles to overcome.

Try to put that anger and frustration behind so you and your fiance can come up with a realistic solution to this.

We wish the best of luck and hope you can solve this soon.

well (this is tram now, mare is playing fruit ninja) I have to go home on wednesday so we are going to figure stuff out, and im giong to plan to come back soon as possible and live here with her in like a month if we havnt heard anything from USCIS by then. We feel like the government doesnt care about us and has put both of our lives on hold while we wait for them to literally do nothing, as we are back to square one. I am so mad! i just wrote my congresswoman again, my senator and i even wrote Obama. We feel discriminated against.

I can't even believe things like this happen. It's so absurd, I wish there was something we could do to help. Make sure that whatever you do, you think long and hard about, so it doesn't delay the process EVEN MORE. And don't give up on calling, writing, and being annoying as you can be. You deserve answers.

Best of Luck :star:
