First time flying?

The culture change is a huge thing for our VN spouse... I was just wondering how many of our spouses had never been on a flight before they met us or was the flight to the US the first time on a plane? Some of us went on trip to other countries with our spouse before they immigrated as it was much easier than bringing them to visit here and that was the first time flying..

From motorbikes buses and taxis to planes trains and automobiles...

WHEN my wife gets her visa its going to be her first time flying too. She is scare but I told her its nothing and it is safe

Before I fly back to the states bringing her along with me couple of weeks ago, we decided to visit Ha Long bay in the North. That was her first time flying and she did very well on it, granted the fly was barely over an hour long. The flights to the states weren't too bad for her either, she even like the food they served on there.

funny you mention flying scott. a couple weeks ago as our flight jetstar was taking off from the runway getting ready to take off suddenly i felt the engine shutting down and the plane slowing. i looked at my fiancee and said "uhh that's not what's supposed to happen". anyways they had to turn back into the terminal and took 1.5 hrs to fix. i joked with her that hey you're with your son and husband, you're satisfied if this is it! she smiled and agreed, anyways 2nd try at takeoff went better but it did make for some nervous time.

I took a plane ride with my wife (her first time) the second time I visited Vietnam.

I wanted to make sure she was ok with flying. She did well flying.

I couldn't imagine letting my wife fly alone to the US.

I had to go picked her up.

the first time that my wife fly was back in 08 , and she like it. most people dont have a problem plying. one of the white guy that i used to work with here in the us swear that he will never set foot on a plane , he the only person that i know of hate plying lol.

Only met one person who hates flying? Meet another! *I* hate flying. The heights don't scare me.. other than the potential problems they create if your craft should falter. As an engineer, I think of how so many millions of parts must work perfectly ( or nearly perfectly )to make that flight happen. And I know how things can fail... esp when economies are bad & cost cutting abounds.

I would point out that the main concern many here might have should not be for the actual flights. Rather, it would be difficulty of navigating the connections & the fear of the CO lines.. esp at a big airport like LAX. Those things obviously scale pretty well inversely with knowledge of English. But, I personally rather be there for my honey... Its a small effort to get our life in the USA off to the best possible start.

I flew with my honey to Da Nang. First flight for her & her sister. They handled it like it was nuthin.

I love flyin.. well i like the takin off part... the rest I could do without other than to get there faster... We took several flights together before she came here and the first was a new experience for her... she does not like it but it gets her there..

When the time comes for my wife to fly home to the US I will be by her side. My wife had never been on a escalator or a elavator before we met. Now they are 2nd nature to her. Flying on the other hand "OMG" . I'm pretty sure she will have a problem with motion sickness. If for some reason she had to fly home on her own, IOM would make sure she made it to her next flight. They are pretty good about that.

My wife can't stand the smell of cars and buses. She would rather ride our motorbike to Saigon. She's never been on a plane. I asked her "If you can't ride a car or bus from our house to Saigon, how're you going to ride a 14 hour plane trip to the U.S.?

I constantly remind her life in the U.S. is not a bed of roses like most people think here in Vietnam. Tell it like it is. Most people in Vietnam has the mentality that life in the U.S. is better. While that may be true, you need to tell them that you have to work very hard to get that life. If you mentally prepare them for life in the U.S. prior to arriving there, they should be able to adjust.

My wife and I fly to Thai Land before she arrived here in US by herself. She already preparing for the long fly once she arrived to the US. Not a problem for my wife...

My wife had never been in a plane before she met me. Since then, she's been on 15 flights.

Hue to Saigon - 5 times

Saigon to Hue - 5 times

Da Nang to Saigon - 1 time

Saigon to Da Lat - 1 time

Da Lat to Saigon - 1 time

Saigon to Taipei - 1 time

Taipei to San Francisco - 1 time

She gets motion sickness, so I think she's puked on airplanes at least as many times as she's flown.

My babe had never flown. She also had never really traveled anywhere either. Dalat or Vung Tau were maybe as far as she has gone. I was going to fly and come back with her but she said No that she wanted to come to me. I thought it was nice and agreed but I did worry a lot until she arrived. I asked her how it was and she said that she liked it a lot. Also she said that she loved the food.

My wife flew on airplanes in Alaska before we met. Since then she developed a fear of flying. I piloted small single engine airplanes years ago for a short time, but she would never fly with me. Our 3 kids flew with me several times. She flew to the Philippines in 2006 to see her brother who lives there. The airplane they were on dropped about a 1000 feet all at once, and that nearly scared her to death. I wasn't on that flight. She also said that being over the water scared her, and she swore that she would never fly again. I flew to the Philippines last October with a friend and his filipina wife, and my wife would not go because of fear. Her brother wanted to pay for her flight, and many of us tried to talk her into going but to no avail. She said that she was afraid in 2006 for the entire flight both ways, so she genuinely is afraid to fly. My friends are afraid to fly also, but they know they must do it if they are going to get to and from the Philippines where they have a new house and their families. They hold hands and pray while they are landing and taking off, which I think is good. I kind of enjoy feeling the airplane bouncing around as long as it doesn't crash! I love to fly.
