When one goes into politics, one agrees to put one's whole life on display for all to see & speculate on. I feel that the 'net-cheating' or whatever we call it is cheating...not quite as bad as irl cheating, perhaps...it depends on the situation. But when you're a public official, you are married, ESP when your wife is preggo, there is a duty to either lead a pure life, or at the very least, be fking discreet about it. His career may well and truly be over...all over some sexting or whatever. He could have remained completely anon..if he wanted some online BS, he didn't have to attach it to his real name. He could have sent all the vexed weiner photos he wanted. But instead, he chose to throw caution to the wind, embarrassing himself, his wife, their unborn child, his constituents, etc. He completely put his career on the line. This will probably follow him the rest of his professional life...and for what?

Well, it's all about the betrayal, isn't it? It would be for me. Add to that the factor that he's a public figure, and now his wife must feel pretty humiliated right now. I think it's gotta rank up there.

I don't know if it's always 'the same as' or not...this one movie back in the day always raised an interesting Q...it's called Falling In Love w Robert De Niro and Meryl Streep. About two people who met, and happened to eventually fall in love with each other, despite being married to other people. Nothing physical happened, so does that somehow make it less of a betrayal?

On a moral level, I think that the two actions are comperable, but not by a legal standard. What Weiner did was monumentally stupid, and even more stupid to think he wouldn't get caught sending out messages like that.

The only true issue I have a problem with Weiner about is that he lied, and got caught. That should be enough to stand down.

Another standard line, the only issue I have is the lying. Twaddle, don't make silly demands on politicians and these scandals will never get aired in public. The family of the person involved have an absolute and vested interest in this issue, the public do not. I am sure there are better ways to get to know the integrity of a politician than looking into his sex life - I am quite sure I don't care about the sex life of anyone at all outside my family and making decisions on the basis of it is mad, and puritanical to boot.

ya, there's guidelines, rules, and acceptable use policies for them there pooters. He's not supposed to 'do that' using gov computers, and not supposed to 'do that' on government time, as well.
