Ok, once we change the name and get new passport, what do we do with old passport that had maiden name and past Visa stamps from entering spouse's country? How does that work? Some of us don't want to take the chance of getting new passport bcz we don't want to risk losing the old Visa stamps, especially during this immigration process? Just wondering? :huh::)

I had to request to keep my old passport with my maiden name on it. We will be using that as evidence at our interview. I'm sure when you apply for a new passport, there's an option with what you want to do with your old passport. I'm not sure how it is in your country, but you can also photo copy your passport too or scan it to your computer if they won't let you keep it.

i got my passport back with the corner cut off, so its in a folder with the mountain of paperwork to go to the interview

What about the Visa into Ur Spouses Country, does that mean U have to pay for a new one?

They don't usually keep the old passport, they return it to you. I have had about 4 passports in my lifetime and I have them all with me. The old ones have the two-whole punch thing to mark it as invalid. :)

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

I believe each country is different on how they handle old passports. I'm sure if you explain your purpose in wanting to hold on to the old one and if it is a valid reason they will allow you to keep the old one.

What about the Visa into Ur Spouses Country, does that mean U have to pay for a new one?

They would keep your current valid passport after the interview when you've been approved to stamp the CR-1 visa. I'm not sure what you mean by paying for a new one, unless you mean US passport which you'd only have once you've decided to become a US citizen (after 3 years being in the US I believe) and apply for a US passport.

I'm actually the Petitioner that is inquiring on behalf of my own USC Passportw/ Visa into spouses country.... :)
