Yes. First of all we have to have a vehicle that's big and strong enough to catch and then ram other vehicles off the road and/or block vehicles coming towards checkpoints.

Then we need something that can run lights, sirens, radios and computers, and have a place to store all that stuff. It has to have a big enough trunk for a shotgun, paperwork, roadside repair kits, accident investigation kits, evidence collection kits, first aid kits, bloodborne pathogen kits, hazardous material kits, spike strips, extra lights, extra water, extra ammo, body armor, gas masks, etc.

Keep in mind too it needs to be able to carry at least two criminals securely without them being able to move around too much. It also has to provide reasonable protection in a crash (lest they sue the transporting authority) and/or protection from others trying to aid them in escape.

Might just be where I work, but most units only have maybe half of that stuff.

Lastly, and most importantly... it has to be manufactured by union workers and sold at top dollar so the unionized police forces that drive them can perpetuate the cycle of using tax dollars earned by honest hard-working Americans to pay for excesses demanded by government and justified by an unfounded fear of "the war on crime."

I dont' know about the procurement procedurers at other departments, but where I work, it's the lowest bidder that gets the contract. Before that, any vehicle purchases must be first justified to the city council and mayor, and if it exceeds a certain amount must be placed on a ballot measure. As to the rest of the delusional musings, I have no idea where you get that from.

People never consider how much the average cop is carrying around yet cringe when they hear someone's house was raided and "five guns and several thousand rounds of ammunition were found."

I'm astonished we pay millions of dollars every year so people can drive around with all that ####### in their cars just so we can feel better.

Lowest bidder? Then why aren't your guys driving Focuses instead of Vics?

People cringe at someone having 5 guns and ammo? News to me. Now if that was 25 guns and tens (or hundreds) of thousands of rounds, I would cringe.

Why don't you wear size 2 thong? Because it doesn't suit your needs. Same reason why law enforcement doesn't drive focus'. My department has shifed some of the fleet to electric vehicles which are charged from dedicated solar charging stations. This is what the parking enforcement staff use. But for patrol, cars still need to be able to deal with all the rigors of law enforcement.

I think 25 is a good number where I would lose my liberal credentials if I went beyond that.

a real liberal would say 0 guns.

Here a person only needs three calibers... an 0-6/300mag either or for bear, moose, caribou, sheep, etc... a shot gun (12ga or 10ga) for birds, and a .22lr rifle for spruce hen and wolves. Anything more than that is just frosting on the cake.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

I'm a true NRA member, I only have rifles. I have two shotguns, and a 30-06. I would like to get a .223 or a 7mm rifle, but those are pretty expensive atm.

Why is 25 guns and tens of thousands of rounds more scary than 5 guns and thousands of rounds? The owner still only has two hands, right?

It would be insane to think law enforcement could do their job in a smart car. Or on foot. Or in a car that could transport several officers to the scene at once.

We're so accustomed to seeing LE vehicles with all the gidgets and gadgets we forget all that ####### only came online in the last 25 years or so. How did cops ever do their jobs before that?

for patrol, cars still need to be able to deal with all the rigors of law enforcement.

Which is the stuff I posted above. You know, the stuff that you were saying was delusional musings?

What about for zombies? Granted, you guys won't have as many zombies up there but you could have a few more Russians/Chinese/North Koreans!

I did what charles! did and wondered how only rifles = two shotguns as well.

You can get a .223 or 7mm in a single shot platform for only a couple hundred bucks. Check out New England Firearms. You can always get a decent AR for around $800. Bud's Guns, CTD and J&G will ship them to your FFL at really good prices. Plus, there's always GunBroker.com for auctions or SwapGiant.com for local FTF transfers.

They're out there, just have to know where to look!

Semantics. But I suppose, technically, I have one rifle, and two shotguns. I got rid of my handguns because I don't have any need for them. Too bad the best home defense gun you can buy is illegal.

To be perfectly honest, I wasn't even looking at single shot models. What I would use it for (target shooting), a single shot would be good enough. I'm leery about using online brokers because California has some really tricky gun restrictions.
