Small town living would be incredibly boring for anyone with a pulse. It's a place you go to die, not a place you go to live. Honestly I can't blame her for wanting to leave. Did you at least talk about moving somewhere better? If I had to live in VN to be with my wife, I would not want to live in a VN hick down somewhere between their only two major cities...but I could stand living in or near HCM city. It's a big difference. Most people, even other americans, want to LEAVE small towns and not try to go back to them.

I live in a town population about 300. We LIKE living in a small town. We're 40 mins from a "big town". We lived in Houston for a while and didn't like it. My husband and I moved BACK to the small town and bought a house here.

There is nothing wrong with small town living, some people just need more stimulation than that.. which is a little sad really and a sign of our over-stressed, fast-paced society. I like knowing I can leave my keys in my truck with the windows down and no-one will steal anything. I got a package delivered yesterday and it was left outside my door for several hours before we brought it in. I like walking my dogs (leashed of course) and if I have to walk on the road for whatever reason cars will slow down, smile and wave. People leave their BBQ's and grills outside. There;s a smoker BBQ thingy (don't know the real name) left outside someone's house on a TRAILER and it hasn't moved. Kids ride their bikes and roller skate around town without fear. We chose a small town because I prefer to LIVE in a small town because this is really life. Living in Houston carried a lot of fear and danger. Including having our car broken into, people robbed at gun point, kidnappings, murders. It meant I couldn't go get the mail at night because it was too dangerous.. and I lived in a SECURE community in a good part of town! Bad stuff happens in small towns sure, but it's more insular and protective of the "good" way of life. Less people, less hassles.

But that's personal opinion of course but just pointing out we moved, on purpose, TO a small town.
