More like it's time to do it right and instead of giving the money away to a conquered people, do it right and conquer without Federal pay offs. If your going to invade and conquer, then don't be a pansy and pay off the peoples who's land you invade, do it right and conquer to the fullest.

Sorry I couldn't hear above the babble that says War is another way of doing things without having to say sorry.

Oil company's such as BP, Exxon, Conoco Phillips, Shell Oil, ENI, Liberty Oil, Pioneer Oil, etc...

so it's private companies paying this, not some government agency giving out handouts.

I pay my fair share of taxes like anyone else.

As far as the annual "stipend" you mention, would that be the "Alaska Permanent Fund" checks all Alaskans receive? That money has ZERO to do with the Feds. It's our oil, and we charge the oil company's for it. No we do not "give our oil away" to the oil company's like other states do, again our oil, and if you want it, then you pay for it.

Profits from the oil tax go to all Alaskans in the form of an annual check. It's called "profit sharing" and it gets shared equally by all the residents of Alaska. It's a corporation who's investors collect the profits like any other company. Alaska raked in 3.2 billion dollars profit last year from a combination of oil taxes, and investments. The Alaska Permanent Fund is a company and ran as such. The profits are invested in the stock market, other company's, etc... that money is spread out all over the place.

That's not YOUR oil as you state, it is either on Federal or Private land, none of which is yours. You are getting money from the oil companies for nothing. SO you're getting corporate welfare instead of federal welfare. Lets take a look at the amount of money alaskans pay per dollar they receive in federal money. Leeches.

Huh, it looks like its devaluing in the last decade or so.

The only reason I asked was that because the state government is responsible in doling it out without the resident doing anything - I do see it as a handout (though there is nothing wrong with that).

Again it's Alaska's oil, so no need for us to do anything other than tax the oil company's for it. The oil company's are making billions off that oil and as the poster ScottThuy pointed out, they are even getting subsidies.

I make my bread and butter working for sub contractors in the oil patch up north, and I don't have a lot of good to say when it comes to big oil other than they help pay the bills in this house. What's really ironic is my wife works at the Dental Clinic here at the Native hospital so it's because of that Fed tax money aka BIA that she gets a pay check on her end and here I'm knocking that and big oil.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

If some of you actually shopped in the same grocery stores as folks on welfare you'd see this on a daily basis and it wouldn't be so shocking to you.

The few times I've gone into a Whole Foods in the yuppy sides of town I saw people (families) buying decent foods on food stamps. I guess its my nature not to start feeling enraged at that, as much as the ridiculous prices the supermarket charges. But I was in the area and hungry. Now people that have anger issues, well... that's something different.

Wrong again. All oil that is taken from Alaska is taxed for the fact it comes out of Alaska's ground. Our oil, and we charge for it. Screw the Feds or anyone else. Again we charge for our natural resources including oil. Nothing is free other than the air we breathe.

Exactly !!! On a sad note though, we have to pay the Feds taxes from our annual checks when we file our income tax. So the Feds get their cut in the end.

Every resident of the State of Alaska is an equal share holder. I posted a link here on another post that explains it.

So you're all equal leeches who are unable to subside on your own skills?

See now Rob, if you read the link you would have a clue. Seeing how your from California it's understandable that all this is over your head...and then some. It's Alaska's oil, and we charge for said oil.

Alaska isn't California. We make due with what we have, and that's natural resources. We don't manufacture anything up here worth mentioning due to the fact the price of materials is sky high due to shipping cost. Where I live there are no roads in and no roads out. You get here by plane or in the summer months by plane or boat. Snow machines aka snow mobiles out number the cars in this town which has a population of 2,000 or some.

Here in Alaska we send our illegals to the joint as fast as we catch them. After that they get a free ticket back to wherever they came from. Unlike California which promotes illegals. Here we don't confuse our kids with "metro sexuality" in the schools. Here men are men, and chicks are chicks. We kill bears, caribou, moose, geese, ducks, etc... on a continuing basis. Iv'e whacked two brown bears myself right here in town (one at the public landfill).

We like our booze and guns, and we don't give a ratt's ####### about who cares. It's a Republican run state who came close to voting for independence on more than one occasion. Our state is filthy rich atm with money and we plan on spending it on our state...not give it away to the Feds.

You really should visit Alaska one time, there is no other place on earth like it. :)

Its still a socialist program though no?

I have nothing against people who grow their own tea. However, people who think that the current administration is un-american and feel that their state needs to secede are abject morons.

LOL

Who said anything about seceding. But being eaten by the federal Governments mandates is another matter. Wish I could stay and play but back to work I go

Millions on welfare are counting on me ;-)

Nope, it's "profit sharing". Say you buy interest/stock in google and google turns a profit. So you in return receive a check. When google's profits drop, so does the amount of your profit sharing.

"The Alaska Permanent Fund" is a corporation. Again it's all on that wiki link I posted.
