Should my fiance get an SSN when she gets here and so she can apply for CA drivers licence and ID? Will they grant it?

an SSN is not enough. she will need a proof of legal presence document ( EAD or Green Card ). probably makes more sense to wait for green card since driver's license will expire when the legal presence document expires. one thing to remember, if she applies for SSN before you get married, she will need to go back to SSN to change card to married name when she obtains the green card, otherwise when you go to DMV, there will be a no name match.

She is taking driving lesson in a car with manual transmission. According to her, she finds it easy. Maybe that has to do with the fact that she drives the motorcycle of her pop often to go to the grocery.

The more she learns there the quicker will be for her to get her license here. Few driving lessons to take when she arrives.

she's using her hand to accelerate, use the clutch and her foot to use shifter? wouldn't that make it more difficult? just kidding

she is getting ready for the fancy cars.... those that actually have the gas pedal on the steering wheel.... or is the the handicapped cars????? either way....no holding hands while she drives..... ummmm... auatomatic... you mean I don't have to shift while driving??? then she gets tampo, because she can't have fun spinning the tires.....

while your with her as she's getting some driving experience,always practice safe driving techniques. besides not holding hands, she should keep her hands off the stick shift, unless the car is not an autiomatic...

Good luck. We have all tried to teach our wives to drive within our circle of Fil-Am friends, and we have all but given up. We are running out of driving schools to try and get past that first lesson.

She will be getting some driving lessons from me while going to driving school. We are both very patience.

1. NO CP while driving.

2. Never to look at the passengers while driving.

3. Pay attention to the roads

4. Learn to use rear view and side mirrors.

5. USE SIGNAL LIGHTS when changing lanes and making left or right turns

Those are some the basic techniques that 90% of the drivers violate. Believe me or not.

suggest a Volvo 740 turbo wagon. Super Safe, Super Fast, she can haul much in it, back from shopping.

well if she got past backing up.... that is good. That is the first lesson.... (after starting the car) The big one is merging into traffic...

It doesn't take many lessons to learn to drive the way the Filipino way. Honk horn repeatedly to warn people you are coming. Flash lights at all oncoming cars. Drive anywhere you can fit. Signs and signals are only suggestions.
