Hi, I was just wondering if anyone could give us some advice on what to do next for the wedding, I will be flying over to my fiance in the US in a couple of weeks, can anyone give their experiences on how they planned for their weddings, we will be only having a civil ceremony, nothing big, but could anyone give us any pointers as to what to do, what we need to find out to get married.

Anyone's accounts, advice, will be most grateful.

That will depend on WHERE you are getting married. I got married in Australia and I googled everything. What you will need to do will depend on that.

so use google, or give us a bit more info...

and congrats on your marriage. :luv:

Thank you.

So I definitely need to get a SSN before we get married.

Do you know how long this takes to get?

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

It varies. Are you here on your visa now?? Did you"check the box"? Have you applied for one...it could take about 2 weeks...to 4 weeks...I mean it just depends. Some places you don't have to have your GC already some you do...(They made my husband wait,...)

so it's just going to depend on your situation.

The search feature on VJ is also help ful :)

I will be receiving my K1 Fiance Visa tomorrow, yay!, so I shall be travelling over to see my fiance within the next week or two.

Was just wondering if anyone can give their experiences as what they did, did you get a social security number before you got married? it says that you need one to obtain a marriage licience, but as I will be just coming over there and we want to get married as soon as possible, it seems like it will be at least a month before we get the SSN.

People from different countries get married in America, but don't have a SSN, so I was just wondering if anyone else had any information as to whether you have to get a SSN to get married or not?

We got married in Clark County NV (las vegas) and they do not require SS# to issue a marriage license.

It completely depends on your local/state laws. Sujeet did not need his SSN when we filled out the marriage license. We got married only 16 days after he arrived. He had applied already for SSN but it took them 4 weeks to send it to him. Check your local laws. :)

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Thank you for all your help.

I finially got through the City Clerks Office of where we will be getting married and they said it won't matter, I explained the situation and I just leave the space blank where you put the SSN in, so I guess it's the same for most places, she said all the id I need will just be a driver's licience, birth certificate, I'll have my passport, so I think we'll be all set.
