I actually spoke too soon! Our check was cashed on the 6th. I didn't bother sending in the paperwork to get the email notifications (truthfully, I forgot), so I assume our receipt (or NOA1) will be dated shortly after.

I'm hoping for speedy processing of at least EAD & AP! I'm a teacher and would love to at least be able to substitute teach for September!

I filed for AOS on June 2nd, 2011. Well actually we had a lawyer that helped us file. Has anyone in here filed an AOS without originally filing for fiance visa? I am wondering if since we did not do the fiance visa thing and got married spuratically after about 2 months of me being in the US, will this delay the AOS process? Also everyone uses the word "touch" on these forums. What does it mean when it says 'touched' in the timeline? And I am assuming that NOA stands for notice of action? I received one for the I-765 and one for the I-485 both say notice type: receipt, does that mean that I have only received my NOA1 and not NOA2 because NOA2 is approval if I am not mistaken right? Sorry for all the questions...just trying to get familiar with the forum.

I did the fiance visa thing. You'll probably just have to show more proof of an actual relationship at the interview. You can see if your case has been touched if you get an account on the uscis.gov site and look at your case status. If your case's last updated date is more recent than your noa, thats a touch. it doesn't always mean anything. What you got was an noa1, youre right, the noa2 is the approval. good luck!

Did you send an I-130 aside from the I-485 and I-765? That should be included if you are not adjusting from a k1.. Many people adjust status from work, student and tourist visas so it's no big deal, but the process is different from a k1 adjusting status. You need to complete a medical here, and file I-130 as well. Your processing time will be the same except that you will have an interview for sure, whereas some k1 cases are forwarded to csc and approved right away. A touch is when you sign up on the USCIS website and create a username and password. When you log in, you can input your case number and see when it was last updated. We consider that date a "touch" And yes what you got was the noa1 and you should receive your biometrics letter next! :)

If you have further questions, I suggest asking on the AOS from work, student and tourist visa forum as they will for sure know the process but feel free to post here too :)

Yes we did also send in the I-130 and I got a medical done here after we got married from civil surgeon. We have an awesome lawyer, so far I am happy with the progress. Let's just hope that everything comes quickly! At least the EAD so I can hopefully start working coming September. I am planning on trying to go in for an early biometrics once I receive the appointment letter. So for that I just go and do a walk-in hand them the appointment letter and they usually let you take the picture and fingerprints early, or how does that work? I will be going to the Oakland office in California for that. Thanks!
