Does this mean America is going to pay even more people not to work?

First off in Alaska ex amount of time has to pass before you can vote again...whether your on probation or not. Secondly I got my felony's in the state of Washington when I was travelling out for local 86. Third off Alaska and Washington state gives anyone including peeps with a felony charge a public defender...even on a murder rap unless said defendant can afford his/her own private attorny (real lawyer). Fourth, my mom spent most of her life working for law firms, litigation firms, but law firms none the less. And the public defenders and prosecutors where always the joke of the law world seeing how they are the bottom of the barrel in the world of attorney's. They are the last rung on the ladder so to say.

It's like being a jail guard...usually fat and lazy ...someone who wouldn't last a single day out in the oil patch, yet receives tax payer money for the fact they were usually a former MP (another bottom of the barrel job in regards to the military) yet they had a clean record. Those are usually the peeps who couldn't score a date for the prom, felt left out by the rest of the world, and got turned on by wearing uniforms after one too many Star Trek episodes.

So what is it? I should go to the Alaska state website and get info, or believe what you say? I believe the state issued information. You can't vote until you are released (which includes parole). All states will give you a public defender if you cannot afford one, as per your constitutional rights. There are MANY private attorneys who place their name in the pool of of public defenders, meaning they will accept cases on behalf of the public defenders office and be paid from the county or state depending on the crime. There is a reason why incompetent council is a reversable factor in appelate court cases. I won't deny that there are some poor public defenders, but the term public defender means more than what you think it is. More often than not, they are actually reputable private practice attorneys, at least that is how it is here.

Of course a former criminal isn't going to like law enforcement. I'm sure they feel that ex-cons are fat lazy slobs who couldn't hack it in the real world so had to resort to crime. That doesn't mean it's always true though.

Wrong. You can go back to court five years after the fact and reapply for your gun rights. And if it's a one judge town who you happens to be your neighbor...well then getting those gun rights back in court isn't a problem.

Alaska may not care what you do, but if you decide to go to a different state, Florida for example... you will be required by law to check in with the police dept as a convicted felon and regardless of what Alaska may say you will go to jail for a felony if you are found in posession of any firearm as a convicted felon...

and your neighbor cant do anything about that...

You slipped backwards in the subsequent post, so now I am disappointed again....

btw 'old english' the cologne? Please don't tell me you wear that.

Type in the word "county's" in here and see if "spell check" comes up in your browser. It doesn't for the fact it's another form of spelling in regards to that word aka Old English.

This lesson is on the house. :)

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Not that I ever plan on going to visit Florida, but thanks for the info. I travel a lot but I have never found the need to pack a gun with me on any of those trips. The neat thing about here is that there is zero TSA from Anchorage to Dillingham, AK. So anyone can pack a gun in their carry on....no scanners, no TSA, no nothing. One of these days I'm going to have to find out what it's like to actually own a registered gun. This town is armed to the teeth as is most of Bush Alaska, yet I can't think of anyone off hand that actually owns a registered fire arm. :)

Actually, it's a correct spelling which denotes possession or a contraction.

'The country's people' <---people 'belonging to' the country

'That country's whack' <------ contraction for 'country is'

That is why when you spell check, it'll come up as ok. Except when you put an apostrophe in random words that end with the letter S....like 'gets' There is no word "get's"

Here's an easy reference guide. And, you're welcome.

Now, let's (let us) get back to you telling us about your three convictions or whatever...

Slim, what is the point of all this? You're not a very good troll as this is obvious bait. I don't respect criminals, or ex-cons. Thank god they can't vote.

The point of all this is you said all criminals should be shipped off to Zimbabwe or Somalia yet you never answered my very simple question of what a criminal is. Here, you're saying criminals can't vote.

By that rationale I'm not a criminal because I can still vote. Yet numerous times on these forums you've posted that I'm a criminal. Which is it? Am I a criminal or not? If folks have speeding tickets, jaywalking violations, a DUI when they were in college, a weed ticket when they were 25 - are they still criminals too?

What IS a criminal?

Once rights are restored they can vote again as long as they are registered to vote.. they lose the right to have firearms and cant posess ammunition..

Why does society find it OK to deny someone their rights to firearms even though their rights have been restored?

This isn't California, and Washington state isn't California. Different strokes for different folks. Iv'e been through both state systems so you can spare me the rules and regs of those two states.

And yes, anyone who has worked in a law firm knows that public defenders are the laughing stock of the law world. If they could cut it then they would be in private practice where the real money is.

As far as those jail guards go...lol.

You still don't get it. Public Defender isn't the same as what you think it is. There is a pool, that the court draws names from to assign a public defender. Most of the names in that pool ARE private practice attorneys. They put their name in that pool to get the big cases, and because it's easier to bill the state or county than it is to bill a client.

That's great that you got a little legal info because your mom worked for a law firm, but that doesn't mean anything. My mother worked for one of the biggest accounting firms in the world. Does that somehow qualify me to talk about FASB guidelines? No.

According to the BATFE there is no federal gun registration program.

What most folks think of as "registration" is simply a bill of sale completed by FFL dealers in compliance with their sales procedures. I've even heard folks say stupid things like, "well, this one's registered in my name." There is no such thing.

There have been unconstitutional registration schemes in places like NYC, NJ, Baltimore, DC, etc., but they were recently struck down by the SCOTUS.

All guns are unregistered!

Slim, this is pointless, you know what a criminal is, as we all do. I admited that I was wrong, that it is only certain states that will not allow you to vote after your conviction. It's a shame only 12 states in this country got it right.

Why does society find it OK to deny someone their rights to firearms even though their rights have been restored?

We've been over this as well Slim. Criminals, especially ones who have been convicted of weapons related charges are not trustworthy and have proven this by their actions. They are not worthy of being full members of society.

My buddy purchased a handgun at a gun show back in PA and they did a back ground check before he could pick it up. Not sure if that's the registered thing or not...

Here we usually buy guns from anyone that's broke and needs quick cash. I got the wife a S & W 22lr auto for $40 at the bar last year. No paperwork, no nothing. It's the norm here.
